Zone Nutrition Bars . . . four day penalty
I got rodeo'd into taking the boys to wrestling practice at the last minute, so my choices were: A) sit through over two hours of wrestling practice hungry (then probably binge later) B) go out for food and leave my 5 and 7 year olds at practice by themselves, hoping they don't freak out when they can't find me during…

Day four . . .
I have seen the heart of darkness - it looks like homemade brownies at my mother's house and cake at a baby shower - but I did not go over the edge. The horror! The horror!

If sweets are a problem for you . . .
I was wondering if I could go forty days and forty nights without sweets - I'm not Catholic or Christian and it's not lent, but I like a challenge that sounds biblical. So, when one of my MFP friend said she would if I would, we decided to make a group and go for it. It won't be easy with the holidays coming up, but group…

TOMORROW . . .
Tomorrow has become my achilles heel. I get tired, crave carbs and think, "I'll start over tomorrow." Who else has had a "tomorrow problem" and how did you get past it? (I'm maintaining, so not in crisis mode here, but still hoping to learn some new strategies to cope with a very old problem.)

Does anyone else eat MORE when they're sick?
I don't often suffer "loss of appetite" as a symptom. My appetite goes the other way when I'm sick. It was off the charts high yesterday and today, right on schedule, I've a cough/cold. Bummer. I don't get "weight loss" as a consolation prize for feeling a bit under the weather. Does anyone else overeat before/during minor…

What's the best advice you DIDN'T take?
Mine was "listen to your body." Noooooooooo, not me. I'm tough, so I played through the pain . . . and now have knee problems that will restrict me to hack squats, Romanian dead lifts, and low impact cardio FOR LIFE.

MFP CANNOT work exactly like Facebook.
I've noticed that over half of the suggestions for improving/developing MFP were basically "Facebook based" suggestions - people wanted "like" buttons, similar notifications, the ability to upload links and photos the same way . . . but MFP can't straight up replicate Facebook, add a calorie counter, and throw in a fitness…

If I lose weight, I earned it. If I gain, it's just water.
Right?

Old dog, new tricks (old tricks) - play outside!
I was headed to the gym this morning for a cardio warm up and then weights when I saw how many of you were logging walks . . . so I decided to warm up with a walk instead. I'd forgotten just how much better cardio can be OUTSIDE! (Now, I still have to be off to the gym, but after a much more enjoyable warm up than usual.)…

For a smoothie that will bring all the boys to the yard
1/2 cup non fat Greek yogurt 1/2 cup 1% milk 2 cups frozen strawberries about 12 packets of Splenda a splash of water, just enough to get it to blend I've shown you . . . no charge! (Of course you can tweak the berries, sweetener, etc. to suit your preference.)

Don't say it!
GOOD RULE: Don't say anything to yourself that you wouldn't say to a close friend in a similar situation. I've noticed that some of you guys are really hard on yourselves, even outright mean - so I thought I'd share that bit of advice that has helped me along the way. For example: If a friend of yours had a binge day,…

I miss "mindless cardio" . . .
I loved zoning out on the elliptical or stair climber to the point of near exhaustion . . . I had finally learned to push hard enough, long enough to emulate the runner's high I used to get. (I've wrecked my knees and can no longer run.) The down side of having a personal trainer who can sensibly integrate cardio into…

I'm secretly pleased when . . .
. . . my mother calls me scrawny. . . . my partner tells me I look like I need a sandwich. . . . my dad makes fun of me for having arms like a man. . . . I overhear strangers at the gym talking behind my back saying, "not THAT skinny, that's too much!" . . . my family threatens an intervention over my "fitness addiction."…

Are you sure you want to say that?
I saw a personal trainer on here recently asking for advice on cutting carbs, not because he had any weight to lose, but in order to better advise his clients. (His profile picture was as buff as any "after" picture on here.) Still, he was met with an onslaught of well meaning but pretty careless posts about how he could…

I'd like to see "Activity" and "Exercise" separately
I know that cooking and cleaning aren't in the same family of "exercise" as hitting the gym, but they do burn calories - and I like to eat those calories, so log my time spent doing those things. I still feel silly entering the time I spent cooking breakfast under "exercise," where I've put in my time on the weights.

Check your personal trainer's qualificiations . . .
I was listening to the radio and: WHAT THE AD SAID: "Get your personal training qualification online and earn six figures in no time. It's like making a living staying in shape!" WHAT I HEARD: "Make sure you're not paying some self interested fitness buff part of his six figure salary for information he learned on line in…

So, you think you've failed? The 3000 calorie days.
PUBLIC SHAME: Yesterday, I lay around all day eating rubbish food and watching bad television. I've left my diary, all 3,000 calories of it, wide open to the public. BECAUSE: I know I'm not the only one - and I don't want anyone else to think they are either. THE (HOPEFULLY) HELPFUL PART: I'm at my goal weight, fit and…

Calories are set at 1200, so I'll eat 1,700(ish)
I'm on maintenance, but have to keep my calories set at 1,200 so I'll eat 1,700. My brain works like this: Under 1,200 - Are you sure you're not hungry? 1,200 - You can stop eating now if you want to. 1,500 - Stopping now would be a good idea. 1,700 - All right, knock it off! Over 1,700 - You're going to pay for that. Over…

You have two choices:
If the behavior of the people around you is interfering with your goals, you can either: 1. Change the behavior of the people around you. 2. Change your own behavior in order to achieve your goals, regardless of what's going on around you. (HINT: Trying #1 will not likely achieve anything, other than distracting you from…

Pointless whinge
Summertime is wreaking havoc with my gym schedule. Grrrrrr. *end pity party here* (I'm going to have to sack up, give up sleeping in, and get my workouts in before anyone else wakes up and finds a way to interfere.)
-
Thank you for your irrelevant words of encouragement
Every now and then I'll post a frustration with an eating accident, missed trip to the gym, etc. and without fail, get some replies telling me not to give up, saying that I can do this, offering me support on my weight loss journey . . . from well meaning people with poor attention to detail. I'm at my goal weight. I have…

Before you decide to eat locally, know this.
If the foods you like to eat aren't usually grown locally, there is a reason! Eating locally usually means more fertilizers, pesticides and energy have been used to pound your local soil into growing food that grows better elsewhere, which is neither healthy nor eco-friendly. Check out point #2:…

Anyone else at their goal weight keeping to 1200?
I'm at my goal weight - 5'5'' and 128lbs, give or take a couple because the scale won't sit still - but I keep my MFP goals set at 1200, and just go over that as/when I'm still hungry (or have an eating based accident of some sort.) I'm worried that f I set my calories to maintenance, I'll almost always want to eat until I…

Do you eat just because you can?
Unless I'm very tired, I have a hard time going to bed with calories left in my budget, even if I'm not hungry. Does anyone else shop for bedtime treats just because you've got calories to spend? Or go to bed with more than a couple of hundred calories to spare?

I'm at my goal, but need more friends in their 40's!
I accept all friend requests! But I'm particularly interested in meeting similar people. I know I'm not the only 44 year old gym rat on MFP! Where are you guys?

Browsing MFP = Late for the Gym!
Does anyone else get stuck on MFP and related fitness links and then, in reading about fitness, make themselves late for the gym? I'm not sure you can help me - just please, tell me I'm not the only one.
