Does anyone know how to watch TV without eating?
I realize that question sounds ridiculous, but I really do have a problem watching a TV show (or going to a movie) without munching my way through it. Even worse, unless I'm working, I tend to want to eat whenever I even sit down! I know I'm not the only one. Have any of you had this problem in the past and found a…

Losing the SAME 5 lbs over and over again . . .
I can only stay within my calorie range for a few days at a time, then I start to slip, and then I quit counting for a day or two and wind up having to start all over . . . AGAIN. I'm tired of losing the same 5 lbs - and I can't be the only one. I'm 44 years old, active (gym rat) and healthy and looking for friends with…

Turbulence Training Review - I'm not impressed
It's interval cardio with some lightweight toning benefits - and nothing like real circuit training or lifting. If you've been sitting on the couch for the last 20 years, this might a good place to start. (I've only done three workouts and will give it a little more time, but I can feel my muscle mass shrinking just…

40 days without a proper workout and I feel . . . better?
That sounds so very wrong - I ought to feel worse! However, for the first time in years my joints (knees and hips especially, where I have deteriorating cartilage) have stopped hurting and I feel fantastic! I haven't been inactive - I'm one of those people who has a hard time sitting still - I just haven't been working…

Looking for more over 40's
I can't believe I'm soliciting you old folks, but I'm one of you. :flowerforyou: I now refer to people in their 20's as "kids." Wow. I can't be the only one.

EXTREME moderation?
I'm at my goal weight and have been for year, and I'm fit and have been for years, and I STILL have a problem with moderation - especially when it comes to eating sweets. I gave up eating sweets for my 40 Days and 40 Nights Challenge. (I came in 2nd place, I made it only 38 days my first try, but all the way through on my…

PARENTING FAIL, big time . . .
My seven year old had a state level wrestling tournament today, for which he needed to weigh in at 76 lbs or less to compete: After he was snowed out of over six hours of practice this week . . . I let him have dinner at his grandmother's house last night without being there to supervise and stop her "need to feed." (What…

Recently lost all interest in fruit and vegetables . . .
For most of my life, I've been able to get my 5/day in without trying too hard - but lately, vegetables and fruit just don't sound appetizing at all. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any idea why?

Learning not to lick . . .
My other half eats donuts, ice cream, and other sticky stuff - and has a broken ankle, so can't get it himself. I catch myself a lot, but I've learned to get that stuff without licking my fingers. (Same with the little bit of whipped cream I put on the kids' fruit salad . . .)

Passing the torch . . .
I'm going to start the search now for someone to take over this group when I complete my 40 Days and 40 Nights Challenge. Volunteers? Nominations? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

How to Fail Correctly
"Sweet Pea, if you're going to fail a 40 Day challenge and start over, why don't you fail on Day 2 or even Day 5? Failing on Day 38 is a just waste of time." - My Other Half

Resolutionaries are subsidizing your gym membership
Don't discourage the noobs! If wanting as many people as possible to be healthy, happy, and fit for purely humanitarian reasons doesn't motivate you to be friendly, then just remember that most of them have paid for an annual membership but will be gone by the end of February - and their membership fees help keep the gym…

Who's still with me?
I'm on day 33 today . . . How's everyone else doing? Is this fun? Helpful? Meh? I love it, but am wondering how it's working (or not) for everyone else. I might start over in January - I'm not thinking of quitting in the meantime, but just want to see if we can pick up some New Years Resolutionaries who might like to join…

Krispy Kreme Sponsored Run?
"Runners will start at Railroad Park in downtown Birmingham, run two miles to Children's Hospital where they will eat a dozen doughnuts, then run back along the same route and finish back at Railroad Park." It's a fundraiser for a local children's hospital. I did not make this up. http://www.k2d2fun.com/

Cutting yourself to lose weight?
Would you even consider making small cuts in your gums and on the inside of your mouth, just enough to make eating uncomfortable, in order to lose weight? Probably not. It sounds crazy, but if you can set your emotional reaction to the idea aside and look at the science and math - this idea actually presents a much safer…

I failed on day 38. So . . . ROUND 2!!!!!
Truffles, you b**tards!!!!! You can knock me down, but don't count me out, because I'm about to get up for the full 40.

If your fitness routine is typical, you don't have one . . .
Over 80% of Americans do not have a fitness routine or get regular exercise. Source - Freakonomics Radio (Later, I'm going to listen to their broadcast on the 20% who do . . . but feel free to beat me to it and post helpful info.)

Santa brought NO SWEETS to my 5 and 7 year olds . . .
and they DID NOT NOTICE! (Unfortunately, with two sets of grandparents, a handful of uncles and aunties, and school related festivities - they probably still had more sweets over the holidays than is healthy - but I think we can safely move back into the land of moderation now.)
-
I lied . . .
The cravings don't disappear on day 26. They just ease up for a bit, and then come back! I still want a cookie and some chocolate.

Stats indicate your weight will change . . .
You are highly unlikely to weigh the same amount this year that you did last year. (My apologies for losing the link, but LESS THAN 2% of people will maintain their current weight in the next year.) Bad news: You are also far more likely to gain weight than lose it. GOOD NEWS: You can beat that stat. :)

Will my HRM be like my smart phone?
I'm a technophobe. I did not want a cell phone. I did not want a smart phone. I eventually gave in and now, if I am too far from my phone for long, something bad happens. Now, I do not want an HRM. I just bought a new IronMan for interval training, but resisted upgrading to and HRM with an interval timer included. Now I'm…

Harming children to make yourself feel good?
Grandparents and aunties especially, and friends and relatives everywhere - please, please, please, please, please ask parents first BEFORE offering children sweets and treats!!!!! And NEVER sneak them treats when parents say no. Of course you're not harming them on purpose, but a diet with too many cookies, cakes, candy…

Quick, easy way to help someone else feel thinner
When my mother in law asked to borrow my scale, I showed her how it worked, then stayed just close enough to her while she weighed in to put the toe of my boot on the back and add about 7lbs. After a scare like that, she was much less upset about learning that she had put on 3lbs since Thanksgiving.

I'm 44. Is it time for me to give up heavy lifitng?
My joints and tendons are starting to wear and tear, and it seems like every time I fix one problem, another one crops up! I've just revamped my entire lower body workout to remedy knee pain, and now my elbow is giving me trouble after my upper body workouts . . . It's frustrating! I'm wondering if it's time for me to give…

This weekend, I learned . . .
I can still eat too much without any sweets in my diet at all. If you would like to try this at home: *Use cream instead of milk in coffee and tea, and drink more *Eat lots of nuts and cheese *Stop your exercise regime *Sleep too much *Increase portion sizes, with the excuse of your choice *Have two slices of pizza for…

Snacks you won't find in public, what are yours?
I just ate a bow full of spinach for a snack. One of the reasons I have such a hard time keeping my weight in check when I'm away from home is that I eat a lot of high volume, but low calorie snacks that are a bit out of the ordinary. I'm not trying to change that habit - I'm looking for new ideas! What snack do you guys…
