BMR Hiccup
For reasons only they might be able to explain, effective today, Garmin has started calculating BMR at approximately 90% of Mifflin - St Jeor as opposed to 110% in the recent past. For example, my weight was stable between Thursday and Friday but my Garmin BMR estimate dropped from 1,771 to 1,433.

OLD FAT
When I started my weight loss journey a few years ago I was aiming for 150 lbs and 15% body fat. The 150 was based on a nice round number that was smack in the middle of the “Healthy” BMI range for a person of my stature. I am a little less clear on where the 15% number came from. In any event, I made my weight goal on the…

Recipies--Weights and Measures
I most often prepare recipies by using ingredient weight instead of volume ie .7g of corse Kosher salt instead if 1/4 tsp. When I use myfitnesspal to create a new recipe, this is often difficult or impossible to achieve with any degree of precision. As an example, if I want to add 1 pound of dried canellini beans to a…

Step Counting Accuracy
I don't expect my activity monitors to be perfect and think all of the posts about counting steps while brushing hair are just plain silly. All other things being equal, if you sit on your butt all day you will earn less than 2,000 steps and if you run or walk five miles you will get your 10,000 . . . MAYBE I have…

In Praise of the Much Maligned Heart Rate Monitor
I started wearing one because I was so out of shape that a 100 meter trot at a slow pace would put me dangerously over my theoretical heart rate limit. I kept wearing one because it was a great, simple way to get back into shape—jog until I hit my limit; walk until I was 25% under my limit; rinse and repeat as long as I…

MFP/Garmin Connect Integration
http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2014/05/01/myfitnesspal-starts-tracking-steps-to-grow-the-worlds-largest-nutrition-database/ "Many of these free apps, like MyFitnessPal, RunKeeper and Runtastic, cross reference data with one another via open APIs to help them scale up. Over time though, some may choose to stop…

Best Tracker
Jen0414 asked via MFP mail which of the trackers I have used was the most accurate. This was my reply which I decided to recycle and share with this group: Well . . . that would depend almost entirely on your definition of accuracy. Sleep monitoring? Calorie counting? Step Counting? It also depends on what you do for…

Poor Accuracy
I've been a long-time user and fan of the Fitbit One. So much so that I have purchased several of them for other people. I did have a couple of problems with the One. It was forever attempting to escape from its little silicon holder and disappear into the wild. I finally resorted to carrying it in my pocket when I had…
