Once I started doing this I was successful. And I spent 3-4 years never making progress, jumping from fad to fad. Wish I would have listened to advice like this sooner.2 -

I started with stronglifts. I watched a mark rippetoe DVD for form though. I practiced with out weight for a while and form came first.1 -

Re: FAIL. I just realized the black bean brownies I made have as many calories as the regular.
I think that's pretty common. Sometimes "healthier" versions are more calorie dense.4
