    Here comes week 6!

I've just had the biggest weekend in MONTHS (celebrating our joint 41st birthdays with my husband) and made no good choices whatsoever. Not one. God it was FANTASTIC!

Really need my fast today though. I'm starting to feel the health benefits of severly limiting my calories two days a week and actually look forward to that "firing on all cylinders" feeling I get when my body is running on empty.

In any other forum that would sound like an eating disorder waiting to happen, but I know you guys "get it".

Go well this week my 5:2 friends! :D

    Firing on all cylinders?!

That's a perfect way to put it.
I feel great the morning after a fast day. Alert & healthy.
not sure why I lost the plot last week & ate my own weight in pizza, crisps, cake....
    anyway... back on it tomorrow.

Determined to get back into the swing of fasting... with that super-charged health kick IF brings.

Just need to find a way to keep on track in the evenings...

@jemcad13 Isn't that the best thing about this eating plan...that you can go for the Olympic Gold in carb consumption for a couple of days for whatever then hop right back on the wagon without derailing your weightloss train?!

Apparently I have a severe case of transportation metaphor-itis this morning!

Hi all, so I have been battling a horrific cold....started last Wednesday and it has gotten worse! Fever, nose and throat. My fasting days was supposed to be today, but I was already feeling light headed this morning and I didn't think that if I keeled over, my kids would appreciate that very much. So my question is...

Has anyone had a cold while fasting?
    How have you coped?

Oh yeah, and my husband seems to think that the fasting has contributed to me catching a cold quicker (I don't want to believe that).

I don't want to derail my progress...this is the only thing that's worked. Even if it is slow.

@snaps27 I had a horrific cold not long after I'd started 5:2, and decided my health was more important so abandoned my planned fast days for that week, but kept an eye on my intake so it wasn't high. Though I really didn't want to eat anyway. I don't think in the long term 1 week off 5:2 will hamper your progress. You need to look after yourself. <3

    hahahaha
Yeah... I think other diets fail for me because eating junk = failure. Not just a little glitch...
Maybe it's because fasting is so immediate... not like the long haul of a 'can't eat that' diet.

Snaps - I'd be really interested to hear how fasting affects immunity... if at all...
    Hope you're feeling better soon.

But then... the traditional 'treatment' for colds is honey and lemon in hot water for just 22 calories.

Bone broth. On Jason Fung's blog, homemade broth like chicken soup are more nourishing because of the extra minerals and collagen...if I understood it right. If you're interested, here's the link:
    http://intensivedietarymanagement.com/bone-broth-broth-can-cure-cold-idm-6-2/

Brothy soups also have very low kcal count:)

If you often get sick maybe you need more vitamin D, Omega-3? Reassess your mineral intake?

Edit: Realized I was incorrect about Jason Fung from YT, adding a link to his blog, where I saw the post about bone broth and healing qualities.

Snaps: I have been fasting since Jan. and have not gotten sick yet. You said your husband said (
Oh yeah, and my husband seems to think that the fasting has contributed to me catching a cold quicker) I feel that fasting as nothing to do with this. Everyone catches a cold from time to time. Some more than others depending if they have kids going to school and getting sick from others.

Hi everyone! Wow a lot happened when I was on vacation! But I'm so happy to see we have a new group and it's up and running! Today is my first fast day in over a week so it will be interesting to see how it goes. I had a wonderful vacation and ate lots of things I normally don't since we ate out for just about every meal. It will be interesting to see if my hunger is out of control today or just fine. :) Hope everyone has a great day!!

More likely your kids contributed to catching a cold quicker. School is back in session and they are quickly passing all of those little cooties to each other. :D

Get some rest. Hope you feel better soon @snaps27!

Welcome back @carlsoda! Glad to see you posting again. Yes, it was a big todo but orlcam got things up and running again with a little help from his friends. I think the new group is running quite nicely. If you have other friends that are wondering where the group went , feel free to pass them the link to the new 5:2 Fasting group.

@snaps27 - My colds are very rare since I started fasting. I can't imagine, fasting being the reason for your cold either. However, I probably wouldn't fast, while sick unless it just happens. Take care of yourself!

Looks like that weekend of over-indulgence and debauchary cost me 1.5kgs!

Small price to pay for such a fantastic time in the whole scheme of things and I know it will be a different story by the end of the week anyway. Might not get back to where I was but I'll be closer than I am now. All good.

Hello all! I've been reading this group for almost a month now and decided to finally start posting for some accountability and support. My weigh in day is Friday and last week I was down 4 lbs from my starting weight... however after my SO's birthday and a long weekend away I was up 8 lbs from that weight this morning! :( I know it likely bloating from salt and such, but I am planning to do 3 fast days @ 800 cals per day this week to get back on track hopefully. I am at 700 for today and about to head out on a run and then have a small snack after. Looking forward to participating with you all!

I lost almost 4lbs the first week then put them all back on plus interest over the weekend. 6 weeks in I've realised this happens every week, but the overall trend is down. I've never experienced weight fluctuations like it. Don't punish yourself too much! I really do recommend weighing in only once a week (if that), but it's harder said than done.

It's unlikely your "naughty" weekend gained you 1.5 kg of fat overnight. Probably is mostly water. Happy bday, btw! I think that even if you have gained a bit back, it's a good lesson for all of us, that we can COMBINE diet and life, without loosing faith and getting back on track:)

Welcome aboard bbb251 :) yea, sounds like mostly bloating. Guys, remember that there is a lag after both increase and decrease of intake. The cumulative effect of eating over budget is most clearly seen on a weekly basis than day-to-day. So looking at weekly trends is VERY useful when it comes to dial up or down dieting/exercise.

This effect lag is partly one of the reasons people put on weight in the first place, I suspect. Cause we don't see the consequences of our actions until maybe many days or weeks later. Hence the phrase "the weight crept up on me".

One blow-out celebration during weekend isn't what's gonna stop our weight loss. The small everyday choices are the most likely culprit.

Thanks so much, I do feel a bit better today. And I think your right about the kids. With four in primary/grade school then I can't really avoid it can I? I have decided to incorporate a multi-vitamin into my routine to get anything back that I might be missing out. Thanks again for the support.

Good morning everyone! Well yesterday's fast was a bust! By 10:00 I was starving so decided to just wait a couple of days before getting back into it. After 10 days of just eating whenever/whatever it's understandable I would have issues. So, the plan is to just try and stay at TDEE today and maybe tomorrow and try fasting on Thursday. By next week I should be back to normal

Hope everyone is having a great day!

I have been taking probiotics and for the first time I didn't get bronchitis with my last cold. My son just came down with his first cold of the school year. I am interested to see if I get sick or not.

I had a long weekend away from the computer. Work has me exhausted. I ate like doodoo over the weekend and drank... a lot. Fasted yesterday and will again tomorrow. Interested in seeing what my weigh in this week will be like.

    Week 1 - 2.4 lbs (1.09kg)
    Week 2 - 0.8 lbs (0.36 kg)
    Week 3 - 1.4 lbs (0.63 kg)
    Week 4 - 0.2 lbs (0.09 kg)
    Week 5 - 0.4 lbs (0.18 kg)
    Week 6 - 0.5 lbs (0.23 kg)
    Week 7 - 1.5 lbs (0.68 kg)
    Week 8 - 0.6 lbs (0.27 kg)
Total loss as of 10/24/14 7.8 lbs (3.54 kg)

My apologies to all of my metric friends. I was looking at my kg amounts and realized I had some of them wrong! Last week I had myself my total loss of 7.2 lbs at 15kg! :"> Corrected my math and I am back on track. If I still have it wrong, feel free to show me the error of my ways.

    Hi to all.
I am new here and did not see an introduction thread so I put my stuff it just here :-)

I am on mfp for a while but started seriously this march. I started weight lifting 3x/week and ate TDEE - 20%. I was very strict for almost four months, logging my food everyday etc. But my weight kinda stayed the same (yeah, my measurements went down a bit but not really satisfying enough).

During the summer I lost track a bit, but luckily didn´t gain. Then I tried with a more calorie reduced version, since I had the feeling I was eating TDEE instead of TDEE - 20%. Went down to 1200 calories a day and of course wasn´t able to stay with that long term.

After going back to "normal" I gained and weigh now more than I ever have without being pregnant. My fat pants don´t fit anymore o_O

Well, I found the documentary for the fast diet and was immediately intrigued. Almost finished the book also.

This year thaught me two things:

I cannot live without or only very few carbs
I am tired of having to restrict myself everyday and think about food and feeling guilty all the time.

It was such a pleasure to go grocery shopping today. It´s not like I eat junk all the time, I have two kids and we cook from scratch etc. But still, I had buns for lunch (lately mostly salat, because carbs), yeah :-D

Tomorrow will be my first fast day. But I am actually looking forward to it. I did a two weeks fast years ago and managed to stay with it the whole time.

So, yeah, I am happy to start and will go on reading here now.

    Cheers, Neon

8th week of 5:2. I'm down 8 kg (ca 17.6 lbs) total and 12 cm in waist! Taking a break from fasting this week cause of the long awaited spinning instructor practical course. But I'll log on MFP. Have a great week, everybody:)
