Sherry - Man! That is one nasty bug you have! I hope you start feeling better soon!

Laura - Bummer about the problems sleeping. Random story here, but my sister has been having problems with this as well...and now just found out she has hyperthyroid issues. She was glad there was a physical reason behind her issues.

April - Good trick! Glad to see it worked for you!

Marla - I never like to think of this as a diet. Diets imply something temporary. I know this is something I need to maintain the rest of my life. I want to be healthy. Excellent point about not eating in front of the tv. That does lead to absent minded food choices.

We have a community wide garage sale going on this weekend. So I had to spend time prepping for that, and didn't get my weight training in. But such is life. I've gotten very stressed this week and I think a lot of it is not accepting that sometimes life will keep me from training perfectly. Time to accept the fact that this is real life, and real life can be messy and imperfect...and that is okay. Today I want to get my lifting done that I didn't do yesterday. Hopefully we'll make a little money off this sale too!

On other more positive news, I'm definitely finished my detox off of junk food. I no longer crave it, and am not hungry all the time. I find when I do eat junk food, it just makes me more hungry. I'm glad, since in a month I won't be able to workout for 6 weeks and I'll be relying solely on making good food choices to continue my weight loss and progress towards a healthier me!

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

I have the day off from work. I got up at 5:00, pulled myself together, went to the gym, did 15 minutes on the elliptical, had an hour total body workout where I'm pretty sure my trainer was trying to kill me, and then just for fun he had me get on every open piece of cardio equipment in the gym for 46 seconds each (because it's my 46th birthday). There were 3 pieces of equipment used but I got on all the rest. I wonder if anyone else there noticed and was wondering what I was doing.

Have been up since 3:00, so that's awesome. Was just starting to drift off again when my alarm went off. I had a surprising amount of energy at the gym and stopped at Walmart afterward to do some shopping, but now (9:43 am) I'm starting to get tired. But since I have the day off I can totally take a nap today.

Interesting about the thyroid causing sleep issues. My doctor tested mine a few times (because of my weight) and it always came back normal.

I have lunch & dinner plans. I'm the one who never cares about doing anything on my birthday, but this will be fun. Lunch is with my niece & a mutual friend, and dinner is with a few of my cousins.

I struggled with dieting for a long time. Lost a lot of weight and I was consistent but it always felt like a battle. When I started training for my half marathon last spring I realized how much how I ate impacted my workouts, and my entire way of thinking changed. I started looking at food truly as fuel. Somewhere along the way I lost that mentality and I'm trying really hard to get it back. Monday through Thursday this week I had great eating days. Today again I'm eating out twice so I'm not worrying too much about it, but tomorrow I'm back on track. I had my trainer weigh me last night just as a motivation not to let today turn into a weekend-long slide, because he'll get me back on the scale on Monday.

Marla, I couldn't agree more about feeling like you "can't have" food being a source of problems. I once heard someone say that if they putcha in a room with a magical buffet with any thing and everything you could ever want and locked you in there for a month, at first ya'd pig out, but after awhile you'd figure out that there is no end to the supply, and at the end if a month ya'd end up thinner than you started. I believe it! I think that's why styles like, IF and "cheat day" and weekly averaging help--you always have a time to look forward to, so there is NO denying yourself (or only temporary denying. :p

    April, have a good trip!

Val, good thinking to train yourself re food choices before you get laid up from surgery. Good luck with the garage sale.

Laura, have a great birthday and hopefully a nice nap too. 46 seconds on each machine--what a "trainer thing to do" for a birthday! Haha!

Well, feeling a little better today (almost afraid to say so, at this point). DH worked a little late, so I was with lil girl. Later I decided to go get a walk and it was lovely! Also got a few groceries and humped those up the hill to our house. Wearing flat shoes more often now...might be ready to recommit to 10000 steps per day again. Oh yeah, did ankle exercises too.

    Have a great Friday night!

    Happy Friday All!

    Happy Birthday, Laura!

Congratulations to all of you that are improving every day.

I've had a minor setback in the past two weeks. I've felt sick and miserable which means I've been eating too much of the wrong things. I've also been fevery, headachy, and nauseous so some of the food isn't staying down. Being on the computer was hard some days. I gave up on tracking a number of times these last two weeks. I think that it's all over now though and things are looking up.

I did get to my trainer workout on Tuesday and plan to go to a workout class tomorrow morning. Yesterday I managed to stay within my calories and I'm doing well today, too. I'm needing to remind myself that I'm not really as hungry as I tend to think I am. I'm also trying to up my water intake and take walks to distract myself.

Last night I stopped by a local place called "Roys Quick Stop" that has really good seafood. Everything is to go. I got a half a pound of large steamed seasoned shrimp and a small piece of pear upside down cake. I brought it home and added my "last of the farmers market" small tomatoes to the meal. Tomatoes go very well with seasoned seafood (crabs, shrimp) as you get your hands all dirty with the seasoning, wipe your hands with a wedge of the tomato to clean the hand and season the tomato wedge and then pop it in your mouth. Then repeat. It's a popular pairing in Maryland. Then the piece of cake and I ended the day happy, full, and within calories.

    Keep healing folks!

Wow I just posted this great long post and it only did first 3 words! Ugh!

Bts i think what you did was perfect you went for what you really wanted with flavors and smells so you were satisfied. When we eat for non hunger there usually is no real great pleasure from it.

    Happy Birthday Laura!

Try again, this time cut off last two parts...what's up?

I am off today going for drive in mountains. I started the day with one thin medium perfect homemade pancake with blueberries, pecans and syrup...I think when you get what you desire you are satisfied.
