Sigh.. I can't say I like this new design. I am starting this thread so it will show up in "my discussions" which seems to be only threads I started now. I hope you are all well and good.. It is interesting to me how on our little threads, we argue over liquid or powdered sugar alternatives and on the "big board" they have 18 pages on "sugar... good or bad"

I remember when I was one of those people. Now, I am one of us people. Some of the things they post are a bit insane. I love reading the vegan/vegetarian threads. I'm not sure why. I won't respond and my diet is about as opposite from their diet as you can get. Just a sick fetish I guess.

I just want to post pics that say "I WANT ATTENTION RIGHT NOW" all over some of the posts on the Big Sandbox. But that would be mean. And after posting it, I'd get to say "But I'm not being mean, I'm just being "honest." giggle.gif

Seriously, it IS tempting to post pics on raw meat on the vegan/vegetarian threads. But I will refrain.

    1. I avoid the big board like the plague. I wandered over there ONE time a couple weeks ago and wound up butthurt. I'll stay here from now on, TYVM.

    2. I, too, hate this new design. And I don't know about anyone else, but "my comments" stays completely blank for me now, no matter how much I comment!

    Grrrr

Okay. After yesterday, I rename the big board the LitterBox. All you need to do is scratch a little and find something nasty.

So, I agree that the main forums are crap, but I do try and help people who are foolish enough to post there about a "different" lifestyle, because I believe that really we SHOULD be able to do that without all these jerks cutting everyone down! WHY are you here if not to support and get support in return??!

I can't even find my starred stuff, so y'all are one step ahead! I starred about 10 things, ONE shows up in my Star section!!

CARoberts73, I am old and can't quite understand what butthurt means! Can you please explain it to an older woman?! LOL 40 is apparrently out of the loop these days!

The thing about the main forums that fascinates me is the obsession with posting pictures of sweets and desserts. Even for the folks who eat a lot of that, why the fascination with "food porn" (as they call it) when you're dieting?

And like cindytw, I often post on those threads where folks are asking about low carb, paleo etc. because they have a right to get a straight answer to their actual question, rather than the "just count/measure/weigh, don't be on a diet" schtick.

That's why I call it the Litterbox.
I'm not sure on the precise definition, but it means "feelings are overly hurt by something that is no big deal." Well, define what is "no big deal." Being a *kitten* to somebody? Bullying? huh-b87610265edc13e76211aac00ce3fdbb.gif I mean, sure, there are people that are too sensitive, but really it's just a term people use to justify their belief that it is ok to be a huge *kitten* to someone and that the victim has no right to get upset about it. No matter the degree of jerkittude.

Jerkittude! Fabulousness. That's my new favorite word.

I once answered a thread about the controversy around the use of the word butthurt complete with links explaining why the term is offensive to some and okay with others. I gave both sides their say.

MFP shut it down within an hour.

Personally for me, I think the word makes light of and conjures up disturbing images of the aftermath of a certain nonconsensual sexual act. So I don't use the term butthurt. I think "butthurt" hints at that particular unpleasantness a little to closely for comfort.

I hate that word and won't use it. The behavior they are trying to justify hits a little too close to those hints. They are pounding people with hate, and the victims can't do anything about it. Uncool in the extreme. But that's just my opinion.

Jerkittude is my attempt to keep it clean. We know there are other more salty words that equally apply to them. laugh-c107160f171147f3c214bb30e43c803f.gif

MFP has come to mean to me...Mean Freaking People.
"I'm not being mean; I'm just being honest." huh-b87610265edc13e76211aac00ce3fdbb.gif Please. I was born one morning, but it wasn't this one.

Things that bother me the most:
    • Newbies come here for support or information...get clobbered. They have no idea the minefield they are stepping into. We should be supporting people. Instead, the mob takes every opportunity they can put them in their place.
    • Moronic juvenile mob behavior.
    • And Gif Hell...nuff said. I love kitty gifs, but there is a time and place.
    • The knee-jerk response to low-carb (no sugar, clean eaters, and etc) is to mock and attack, as if their existence threatens them personally.

Absurd, but what can you do? I've got steel undies myself so I can handle it all and give it right back, but I hate what they do to other people. And when they mess with my people (low-carbers of all kinds), I get feisty. I should just let it go, but I can't just leave people to get clobbered.

At least we have the groups, right?

Yes, I'm enjoying you and some other low(er) carbers on the "Low(er) Carb Real Food" thread.

Poor OP and her defenders are getting kicked around, but they're retorting well.

And it's always the same jerks flexing their cyber muscles who share a common friend list turning a benign topic into a declaration of war. They travel in packs like the jackals they are. That's part of the reason why I don't keep a friend list. I abhor pack mentality and avoid it any way I can.

Hopefully the OP of that thread will take the advice and come here or to the Paleo/Primal group where she engage in civil discussion about what's important to her without having to wear a helmut. She's handling herself quite well.

Always the same familiar faces. Why can't they go to their own threads and stay there? I don't invade their world, why do they have to sully mine with nonsense? "In it for the lulz." Then they cast their bait, and wait. That one guy comes in and every time accuses someone of thinking their view is superior to everyone else's. Last time it was keto...or he tries to get someone to say "sugar is bad." yawn-ec29f736861301f7bd2e88f82e365fa4.gif

OP seems like she'll do ok though.

It really is like discussing religion and politics. Some folks are zen about it all, but some folks HAVE to convince you their beliefs are right. And, as I said in that thread, it often makes me wonder if their convictions aren't quite as solid as they'd like to hope.

And then there's the shirtless mafia. I wonder there if they can't see beyond their own 3k BMRs and 4K diaries to truly see that we're not all the same, and don't all have the same goals. (but apparently we should).
I think the OP will be ok. She friended me. Seems nice, and has admirable goals.

With respect to "butthurt (such a dumb phrase). I prefer to think of butthurt as how one would feel after getting a wedgie, or snuggie, or whatever your term is for what immature twerps in locker rooms do to smaller kids underwear. :-1:
Perhaps because that's what so much of the behaviour looks like. :)

The word TROLL is used often on the main boards. And those guys are the TRUE trolls. They, as you say, cast their bait and wait. Trolling the boards looking for folks to dog pile on.

And it reminds me of what it's like when you get to the dog park and all the dogs swarm the fence to "greet" the new dog.

    cheers
  • I also wonder why those people care so much about what I eat. If it's working, let it be! If what they are doing works for them, so be it too. I decided to stop defending my choices and slip into that pair of jeans with a smile that fits again instead. :)

I really wish we could "like" things on the forum. That way, if I agree with a post or think it's awesome I could give validation without having to post "^This."

So, for the two previous posts... "^This."
