roasted recipe

What's the difference between roasted and baked? I'm thinking roasted maybe means they get blackened a bit?
Anyway, just started cooking Brussels sprouts in this fashion, got the recipe from a friend:

- cut sprouts lengthwise into quarters
- finely dice a shallot and a few garlic cloves
- toss together in a bowl with olive oil, salt, pepper
- roast on a baking sheet in oven 'til the edges are blackened (flip/rearrange halfway through)
- eattttt!!!
