Has anyone expermented with breaking up the fast over the week?

I find sometimes it is hard to get a whole 2 days to fast if I have various social commitments sprinkled through out the week. So I am wondering if anyone has tried, for example, fasting dinner one night to dinner the next night, or breaking up the fast by eating four 250 cal meals through out the week and nothing for two meals with no snacks in between? I know this is not traditional 5:2 fasting so I am wondering if it would actually work? Looking for either actually experiences or opinions on my thoughts.

Well the whole idea, if you really believe in "calories in vs calories out", is to get the deficit. That will get you the weight loss, but what you'll be missing out on is the health benefits of resting your digestive system and the increase in metabolism.

I often wonder though...I've tweaked some of my recipes to where I can suck in 2+ lbs of food while staying under 600 calories...is this really giving my digestive system a rest? Should bulk/weight/mass be considered too?

some people do 16:8 where you fast for 16 hours and eat during an 8 hour window
seems like that might work too - if you try any variations let me know as I am finding it hard to do the 2 day fasts lately

@Orlcam - Yeah, I wonder about the metabolism equation. I suppose it is ok if I make my fast day from dinner to dinner because that should take advantage of taking a break from food and, hopefully, shaking up the metabolism but spreading the meals out will cut calories but probably not do much for the metabolism.

Personally I don't think the weight of the food matters. As you said it is calories in and calories out. The body breaks down the 2lbs of food and does with it what it wants. What would keep your digestive system active would be hard to digest things like fats and proteins. I doubt you could do 2lbs of fat and/or protein and keep it under 600 so my guess is the body is able to dispose of the 2lbs without breaking a sweat.

I fast every Tuesday and Thursday. The physician that got me involved in this said that the beauty of the 5:2 is the flexibility. You can make it work for your schedule.

I do an eating window. I eat from 12-8 (trying to get it to 1-7). Works great for me. Seeing weight come off easily.

Do you do eat that way every day?

@jknight001. Yea, the flexibility is the best! I'm combining 5:2 and 16:8-ish like orlcam. If I have to break the fast earlier one day it's no biggie, since I'm having a 14-18 hour fast regularly. I've had a couple of hard weeks keeping FD down to 500. I still lost weight, but not as much as with 500.
