New to the group. I have menopause at the ripe age of 41! errr from Endometrial/Uterine Cancer -- everything was removed on June 13th of this year, so this is surgical menopause but menopause all the same (instant menopause). I'm on an estrogen gel for HRT. I'd like to reduce my size a bit and get into better shape. Will it result in weight loss? Not sure, I do know I'm happy to trade my fat for some muscle. I use the fitbit and an HRM no kidding figure out what I'm consuming verses calories out. My biggest fear is that my metabolism is reduced or will soon reduce and I'm going to gain weight. Where can I go to find out more info on this?

Hi and welcome!
From my reading on the net after I first experienced menopausal symptoms (had hysterectomy age 33 but kept ovaries), my biggest fear was loss of muscle. The stuff I read was downright scary, and I didn't want to lose any functional abilities. I also have family history of severe osteoporosis and I wanted to maintain bone density.
Weight loss wasn't a concern, but I did notice some odd flabbiness and mushy parts... like some of my flesh just kinda shifted unattractively, lol.
So, age 47 I took up some very amateur strength and resistance training. Eventually found my way here and read enough endorsements of weight lifting that I started that too, about a year and a half ago. I'm pretty careful and cautious about what I do, since I have a lot of joint issues, but even lifting relatively light weights (compared to some of the aficionados that post here), I've seen some really good muscle development.
As far as I can gather, maintaining or building muscle will preserve metabolism to some extent.0 -
I don't think that your metabolism should decrease by much. Not enough that you should struggle trying to adapt. Work on resistance training, and don't over-train on the cardio. Get plenty of protein.0
