Insanity + Garmin?

This is perhaps a stupid question, but does anyone know how to use a Garmin Forerunner watch (specifically the 610 with HRM) during an Insanity-type workout?
The problem I'm thinking of is that the Garmin is a GPS watch so it expects you to be running/moving during your training, but with a workout like Insanity, you'll be in one place. I'd like to use it to record my heartrate during the workout and to give me a record of calories burned. I've previously just used a rough guess based on online calculators but I'd like to use the Garmin to get a more accurate picture.
Can this be done? I've only just got the Garmin the other day and I'm still trying to get familiar with it.
