I am new to MFP and new to Thyroid issues. I am getting my Thyroid removed a week from tomorrow (Nov.20). Any advice?

I had Lap-Band done about 5 years ago and lost almost 100 lbs, but due to some major health issues, (back surgery, thyroid just to name a few) I have picked up most the weight again. So here I am trying to do it again.

Hi and welcome! I had my thyroid out two years ago and it's actually not that bad. The surgery's a breeze, my scar's little, it didn't hurt at all, and the hormone replacement meds are pretty cheap. The only advice I have for you is start counting calories now and make sure you take your meds exactly as it says in the instructions (LOTS of water, WAIT to eat at least a half hour, hold off on supplements with calcium for at least 4 hours).

Losing the thyroid is an easy excuse for increased weight but after about six months of beating my head against the wall and feeling sorry for myself, I learned to stop blaming the meds and start looking at my habits. That made all the difference in the world.

Good luck and keep us posted! We're here to help/commiserate.

Welcome! Feel free to add me as a friend ( I have Hashimoto's ). As to your questions - basically what MeepleMuppet already said + for me it made a big difference to have a longer gap between my meds and my breakfast ( I wake up at 5:30, take my pill and go back to sleep. In this way, I usually have 2 hrs gap. ) and my meds and my iron supplement ( I take it in the evening now ). Good luck!
