What questions should I ask?

I see a dietician today. I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I want to ask her about the diet that would be right for me. I am not sure what else to ask.

You need to discuss total carbs and how they should be spaced out. Also discuss protein, fats, and sodium. If you've never watched carbs, you may need to know about the best sources for carbs. Be sure to let her know about your situation - whether you will be cooking and eating a "clean" type diet or will need to rely on processed meals or restaurant choices. I hope this helps. Good luck with your appointment and your journey to better health. - Toni

She gave me some handouts and went over some goals. She is a dietician I have been seeing for weight loss, but she isn't a certified diabetes educator. My dr can refer me to someone else. I am thinking of doing that. Thank you
  • It sounds like meeting with the dietitian has been helpful, and that you're getting more ideas about how to best change your food choices to manage diabetes. Working with a diabetes educator will give you even more suggestions, or you could look into a diabetes education class in your area; usually hospitals offer them. ~Lynn /Glucerna
