Because of the colorfully named “what the hell” phenomenon, a minor stumble often becomes a major fall; once a good behavior is broken, we act as though it doesn’t matter whether it’s broken by a little or a lot.
"I didn’t eat a healthy breakfast this morning, so what the hell, I’ll take the rest of the week off and start on Monday.”
“I missed my yoga class over spring break, so what the hell, I’ll start again in the fall.”
It’s important to try to fail small, not big!

Happy Sunday everyone!
Laura - It has been an intense week for you! I always marvel at the amount of workouts you get in. You definitely deserve a good rest day!
My cold is settling in my chest a bit. But at least it seems to be working its way out of my system. Took it easy yesterday. I slept in and had a leisurely morning. I went grocery shopping and ran a few loads of laundry, but that was about the extent of my productiveness. I also dropped a couple pounds and when I weighed myself, I was 199.9! Barely under 200, but I'll take it!
This is my last week before surgery. I'm planning on getting all Christmas and birthday presents all set. I've gotten all the yardwork almost caught up and everything else is done as well. Hoping to just be able to lay around with nothing to do for a couple weeks and truly relax!
Have a wonderful day everyone!0 -
I love the reminder to fail small!
Congrats again Valma on breaking into the 100s! As exciting as it is to watch that middle number drop, there is nothing like having that 2 turn into a 1. I can't get over how productive you've been pre-surgery! Sounds like you're as prepared (in every way possible) as you can be.
I did end up doing my workout yesterday. The sun was shining and I decided to just get it over with. The 30 minutes on bike did help as far as being warmer when I headed outside. Because this was my first run on the snow I stayed in my neighborhood. I'm in an older neighborhood and there isn't really a loop, but for about half a mile there are cross streets between my road and one two (longer) blocks over, so when I want to stay close to home I'll stay on those. Yesterday I ran out to the furthest one, ran down & back, over to the next closest road, down & back, etc. I knew that my pace was going to drop a lot running in the snow (plus the down & back route slows the pace too since I'm frequently stopping to turn around), but I forgot what a killer leg workout running in the snow can be. The first time I was ready to quit I looked at my Garmin and had only gone 1.74 miles. Keep going. Next time I looked I was at 3.48 miles. I was .4 miles from home at that point so just had to add on a little more to get to 4 miles. My pace was something like 13:09, which was better than I expected it to be. Last winter I rarely broke 13 min/miles in the snow with the shorter stride & having to watch every step. If you've never run in snow it's probably closest to running in sand, if sand was also cold and slippery. The surface changes from hard packed (slick) snow, to greasy snow, to soft fluffy snow, to uneven ice ruts, to the random chunk of ice that I discovered last year you can easily turn an ankle on if you're not careful. Maybe it's different for veteran runners but for me it stops being about pace and just becomes running for the love of running.0 -
Gym for chest, triceps, back, biceps. It was a good workout. Walked there and back.
I've failed repeatedly this week. I kept trying, but kept failing. Sigh. I can't seem to maintain consistency with my intake. I can do well for a week or two or more, but never long enough to lose significant pounds. It's like my body just wants to insist on keeping me right here. But, I'm making adjustments and still trying. Gonna make some changes to my Nov plan based on going to the gym and restarting running.0 -
Busy day yesterday & was on track for a healthy day until...hubs came home (yay!) and reeeeeally wanted chick fil a. Even tough I haven't eaten there for years on principle, I caved. I had the grilled chicken meal but went overboard & got a dessert. I thought the guys would split it with me but they didn't.
Today I am also a hermit, did not leave house. Laundry done, work clothes organized, hair colored & nails trimmed. Made tonight & tomorrow nights dinner & M T breakfasts & lunches for me and my tot. This am I made some biggest loser super healthy waffles (no flour, almond milk, etc) and they were really good with fresh berries (no butter or syrup). Batch made 5 so I packed a couple & froze the rest.0 -
Hi, sorry too busy to check in lately. Went to Seattle for 3 days then work today. Walked and jogged around Green Lake in seattle. Other than that no exercise. Next 3 days working 9 hr days while boss out of state, so nothing then either...busy week! Freezing around here highs have been in the 20's. Wind chill made it cold in Seattle. Lots of layers! Snow predicted here in a few days.0
