Hey all! I hope you're all staying warm! What crazy cold weather. . . and the news shows terrible storms in the east. Take care. Just a skiff of snow here, but REALLY cold. (But, balmy compared to Kelly's weather!) I'm very grateful for my home this time of year.
Thought I would post my weight since we're on our way out tonight. Going to see "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at our local theatre. Hope it's good.

Goal weight: 120 - 125
So, I guess I'll be happy with that. Always so slow going.
Kelly and Lois and I are doing a weekday step challenge. Sorry, ladies, but I'm very competitive! It's been a good motivator for me. I just get on my old TM and GO until I have 10,000 steps. I also did that 20 weight lifting workout I posted. I'm going to feel the pain this week
I hope everyone's work is letting up a bit. I've got a lot going on, but nothing compared to you guys and your jobs. Take some time to breathe and care for yourselves.

work has been a bear, one gal out sick so we are not just slammed but short staffed as well. Ugh. No sign of it letting up until around March or April and then we will be in the registration for next year school physicals, LOL. It's always demanding but so much worse in the fall/winter when we have so many sick kids that need appts. And I absolutely hate that it is dark before I get out of the office. But it is what it is and I love the job itself. I've started packing supper in my lunch box so I can eat before heading home. Only makes sense to do that when I leave work between 6-6:30 and have a good 45 min drive home.
Anyways, still on an antibiotic, still coughing and wheezy but doing better enough to start upping my steps (can't compete with you big steppers!) and adding my exercise back into the scheme of things. I am finally back to the weight I was last Feb. Yeah

Sarah, hang in there. It's good to get the dr's opinion of what's going on since you have thyroid issues but I have often found a short term weight gain when I've started exercising. I don't know if it's a build up of muscle tissue before burning the fat or what but it's always been a temporary effect for me and then the fat weight seems to start coming off. The weight exercises are so important, as is changing things around a bit.
Hope everyone else is doing well. Can't believe I managed to get on this thread before the rest of you... coworker treated me to lunch yesterday (chicken sandwich at my favorite bakery) and I was able to get off on time so I just left my lunch box at work and came home for dinner so I don't need to pack anything, giving me a little more time this morning. Whooo hooo! LOL Now, since I have more time, I'm going to make good use of it and go do my exercise dvdExercise ball this morning...

Hi Ladies!
So... I'm out in the middle of nowhere at a different camp that doesn't have cell service or wireless internet. Sure is interesting, but it's a good change for a couple days.
Sheesh & Lois - this means I won't be able to upload my fitbit information until tomorrow when I get out of camp... SO WATCH OUT! It may look like you're ahead of me now.. but not for long!
Also, I haven't been able to weigh in this week, as there isn't a scale to be found here. I'll try remember to weigh in on Friday when I get home.
Have a great rest of your week and stay warm!0 -

OK. Still not what I believe I worked towards, but it is what it is!
Sheesh - you? competitive?!?!?! No way...I hadn't noticed...lol. It's been fun and I've had to struggle to get my steps in. Like Sarah - I have a desk job and basically feel that I've been strapped in my chair all day. And, my training workout on Monday was TRX so no stepping there! UGH!!
It was nice to pass up Kelly, but I figured she was either driving or out in the middle of nowheresville (which is where she is). So for now, I'm enjoying 2nd place buahaha
Light - I hope you get to feeling better soon! Keep up the great progress!
I must rediscover my treadmill to catch Miss Sheesh (I just cleaned for the holidays and of course the non holiday friendly stuff gets packed where the treadmill is until January). Must get those steps in!!! (talking to myself of course - Sheesh - TAKE A NAP!!)
This Saturday is Rugged Maniac, and though I shall have a ton of steps in that 3.5 mile course - my fitbit will be nowhere near that area. I promise to be safe and not do any obstacle that puts me at risk for another injury (hubby will be with me and ensuring this as well).
Check back when I can.

Sorry to be arriving so late. I had my doctor's appointment yesterday, and it took longer than expected. Then I had to scramble to get some work finished before I raced out to the mall to get there a hour before it closed. Here's my stats:

LW: 145.2
TW: 146
I took my bodymedia report for the past 28 days to the doc's with me. I have a great female physician who has showed great interest in my bodybugg back when I first got it. She took a look at the report and said she also wonders why the math is not working out (my deficit for that period was about 450 calories a day), but it will take about 2-3 days for lab results to come back so she can determine if my thyroid might be playing a role in this. So all I can do is just move forward.
Congrats Lois, Light and Sheesh on moving in the right direction. Light, that's a amazing loss for being sick! And Kelly, looking forward to hearing from you. Sounds like you're in a pretty remote place this week. My other half would love it. He is occasionally sent to Alaska on business and always enjoys those trips.0 -

2 days late because of my location, but better late than never! Especially when it's a loss!!
It really was a benefit to not see how well I was doing on my steps for these past couple days. I had it in my head that I HAD to keep ahead and I had no way of knowing how well Sheesh and Lois were doing, so I just kept stepping. One day I had over 17,000 steps and even after driving all day for over 9 hours yesterday, I'm still ahead by over 11,000 steps. It's my first day home from days off, so I just have to keep stepping and not sit my butt on the couch, like I normally do when I get home. I'll be stepping in front of my TV.. catching up on my PVR'd shows
Sarah - I'm glad you're getting that looked into. Based on the numbers, it really doesn't make sense that you're gaining. Let us know how it works out once the blood work comes back. Keep moving in the meantime!
Lois - Good loss! Good luck on the Rugged Maniac tomorrow. And yes.. please BE CAREFUL and don't get hurt.
Light - Congrats on getting back to that weight!! Super exciting
Sheesh - Can you just sit on your couch today and let me win?? lol
This challenge was AWESOME for motivation! I can't wait to do another one.0 -
You guys are going to force me to get a fitbit so I can engage my competitive gene! :-)0
-
Sarah -you MUST get one. The new "challenge" option they have is a BLAST!! and that's coming from the one being annihilated by Sheesh and Kelly!!! Dang women - put your feet up for a minute. HOWEVER, I will say, it did push me to get in my min 10k steps these past couple of night. Last night I had to walk 800 steps while brushing my teeth to make it, but dang I did!!
Kelly - may issue another challenge for next week again...) Even though I'm behind, it was fun and motivating. And I still have some time today to get steppin!!! too bad I can't wear my FB to Rugged Maniac tomorrow - that would be awesome. Afraid I'd lose the darn thing. And Yes, I am going to be uber careful. I haven't looked at the course map yet, but hubby's pretty excited. I'll check in after the race on Sunday or Monday.
Everyone's getting focused again and it is so exciting - especially with all of the food we are going to be exposed to every day from here forward (our office has already received a few packages).0 -
Well, ladies, there's good new and bad new. The good news--I guess it's good--is that my TSH was a little over 2, which is acceptable. But the bad news is that it seems my thyroid is not causing my weight gain. If this keeps up, though, I'm going to ask to be sent to a specialist. The one who determined my range is now retired, and so I've just been going to my primary care physician. I just did my stats for the past seven days, and my deficit for 648 calories a day on average. How the heck do I go much higher than that????0

Dang, I wish you could edit now. News. Not new. News!!! I'm racing because I just took a quick break for half a sandwich.0

Oh boy. New plan for me this week. . my son, DIL, and granddaughter from California are on their way here for a funeral. DIL's grandmother died
I had to get off the treadmill a couple days ago to get the rest of the Xmas decorating done . . .I was in the middle of it when I got word they were coming. Dang. Kelly was kicking my butt anyway.
Lois, you're doing great . . I don't know how you do it with a desk job, etc. Sarah, you have to get a FitBit! The challenge is fun. Also, I don't know what's going on with you since the TSH is okay. I know there is more to thyroid than just the TSH, though. There's T4, T3, and others. I don't know how they all work, but maybe you should get a complete thyroid panel done.
My kids will be here till next Wed! Then, they're driving to southern Utah to spend Thanksgiving with family there. Hubby, unmarried daughter, and I are taking off on Thanksgiving morning to go to Nevada to golf, gamble, and get massages for the holiday. I decided to cook Thanksgiving dinner (a small one) this Sunday so we can have one with son's family. Daughter in Boise is having in-laws family. (It's the off year for us.) Hope you all have a great holiday . . enjoy a small piece of pieI don't think I'll have time to post again until after the holiday weekend.

Just checking in quickly. Keeps me motivated. We went to a craft fair today--a big, juried event (which means no artsy-craftsy stuff)--and we did a lot of walking, but I also plan to walk in the mall tonight and do some weights. Sheesh, the needing to look at more than T4 is why I'm thinking about asking for a referral to a new endocrinologist. In addition to the weight, there's a few other symptoms, too, that could be thyroid.
We are going to a friend's house for Thanksgiving. We used to go to her house every year; but she went through a lot of major life events and wasn't up to it for the past several years. I'm grateful that she's feeling up to it again, and I'm looking forward to it. We typically do some appetizers and side dishes, so I can make sure that there are plenty of vegetables to offset the turkey and dressing.
Tomorrow night, hubby and I and another couple are taking a third couple out to dinner. The third couple have recently sold their beautiful, large historic home and are retiring to a smaller place in a college town about an hour's drive away.
So there's lots of social situations with food coming up, so I better get moving. I may just have to add a fitbit, although I don't think I would take off my bodymedia for awhile. The Washington Post ran an article recently about all the various devices that said the bodymedia is considered most accurate for recording calorie burn, and goodness knows with whatever is going on with me, I need to know as accurately as I can.
Kelly and Sheesh, stay warm. Lois and Light--think about us shivering in our shoes while you enjoy your warmer weather.

quick note from me... Sheesh, sorry for your dil's loss. Good that they were able to stop in for a visit and early Thanksgiving with you though. Yeah for all the family time you are getting. I hope you have a marvelous time.
Lois, I've gotten a big kick out of this last challenge, watching all of you and seeing how great Kelly has been doingI couldn't figure out how to click into the accept or not but it didn't matter as I wasn't really up to competing at that time anyway and have a hard time with my feet when I do that much stepping. Hope you had a great time with the event yesterday and that you came home with no injuries this time.
Kelly, I'm impressed with how well you did this week, considering you were in a new station base and out of your normal.
Sarah, keep plugging... I'm glad (in a way) that the blood work didn't show a thyroid problem but yes, don't think a referral would hurt at this time. I'm guessing you've already evaluated your food pattern for sodium, sugar and carbs. One of my coworkers was put on a strict "no carb" diet from her dr and has been gradually adding carbs back in. Her dr has her watching to see at what point she goes from maintaining to gaining and that is the carb level she is supposed to be sticking to. I hadn't heard of that before so went back to my meal diary to see how it might apply to me. I found that mfp allows me 150 g carbs/day. I seem to maintain or gain when I get above 120g. On the weeks where I have had my best weight losses, I have been between 50-75g carbs, while still making my calorie counts. Now, having just discovered that trend, in addition to my fat and sodium content, I'll be watching the carb count and make sure I don't go too high. We'll see how it goes when I weigh in again having just talked to her on Fri and applied it to my meal plan as of this weekend
And 2 other random comments:
Yes, I am feeling better- finally off the antibiotics (almost 3 wks!) but no longer coughing up stuff. Hooray! And I am feeling much more normal at this time.
It is good to hear everyone getting motivated again, and getting the move on. We are going to need that as we head into the holidays. I am hoping most of our treats coming into the office will be chocolate based since I can't do chocolateI need to consider "I can't do the sugar" to be just as serious but my brain still wants those wonderful seasonal treats.

Hi, Light,
Thanks for the feedback about carbs. I go by the low end of the IOM recommendations for percentage of carbs in the diet (i.e., 45-65% of calories in healthy carbs.) For me that's a range of 145-160 grams of carbs per day. Sounds high by your target, but I eat vegetarian several days a week, so it's difficult for me get enough protein with a lesser goal.
Last night's protein source was pinto beans (going back to my southern roots). One cup cooked has 37 grams of carbs. The steamed cabbage had another 20; the glass of milk had 15. So that meal alone racked up 72 grams of carbs, although it was fairly low in calories and very high in fiber. I'll continue to look at this and consider tweaking though. It's specific information like this that can be very helpful, and I know that we share some lifestyle issues (long sedentary work and no access to a gym--at least at the moment for me).
I'm happy to report that I walked outside last night. We had a very unseasonably warm day, and although I wasn't able to take a break during the work day, it was still around 60 degrees when I got off at 7 p.m. last night. Then after dinner, I did yoga and some hand weights. So I felt good pretty good about the day as whole. I'm dreading, however, the hordes of Christmas shoppers in the walking space at the mall! (Although I'm happy for the merchants.)0
