val, glad your surgery went well!

This a.m. I was feeling lazy, so I did isometric abs/glutes (basically plank, side planks, glute bridge hold)--much easier for my sleepy brain to do than full blown, straight-leg sit-ups, lol. Then, unfortunately DH had to work late in the afternoon, so I had lil girl with me and so no gym today. Not feeling too sore from yesterday's workout, so I'm feeling like I'm wasting my time a little and need to up my game at the gym a bit. I recently dropped from strength reps (~5-8) to endurance (~12reps), so maybe I won't feel so sore. I'll stick with it for awhile, then I'll want to get back to strength reps again, I really prefer it.

    Have a good one!

Val, happy to hear your surgery went well! Hope you're feeling okay today. Enjoy having solid food again!

Sherry, Jason tends to have me do a mix of strength & endurance reps, depending on the exercise, or even depending on the set. First set is often lighter weights/higher rep, with increasing weight & decreasing reps (10 @ 20#, 8 @ 25#, 6 @ 30#).

After a talk with Jason last night, I'm on a running break through the end of the year to give my foot a chance to heal. It is dramatically better than it was but the pain just won't go away completely. I want to do some longer races next year (for sure a half marathon and hopefully a full) and I'm concerned my foot won't be ready when I am. So I'm taking a break then starting up slowly again in January. In the meantime I have my bike trainer & a gym full of cardio equipment to keep me entertained.

For the past couple weeks I've been working to clean up my eating. Not worried about calories, just quality of food. A couple hours after I left the gym I got a text from my trainer telling me to start eating in moderation again. I'm already up several pounds (which he's not concerned about in general) but I suspect without running he's afraid that will become a problem. And I think I'm ready. I've gotten a lot of my good habits back so hopefully I can get back on track with eating. I had set MFP at maintenance but changed it back to losing half a pound a week.

Laura, I used to do smthg like that, 10, 8, 6, 6, but wanted to get stronger more quickly and switched to 5x5, then 4x6 (which I like best for gains and for time it takes being less for fewer sets n breaks). I just began 3x12 for a change up, since returning to gym, but am hankering to go heavier already. I'll probably give 3x12 til end of year.

Just got word that DH will have a bunch of work between now and Saturday. To help, I will have the kids a lot so he will have quiet time to work at home. Hoping I'll still get to the gym a couple times too, though it might take some extra planning.
