Any recumbent riders out there?

Hello, I have just started doing MFP seriously at the end of July, and about that same time starting riding a recumbent trike (until recently when the weather got a bit cold). I did a couple of tours this last fall and my personal best is currently 22 miles- a distance I never thought I would go as I have never been athletic. I'm just wondering if there are any other recumbent riders out there in this community and if anyone knows of any recumbent groups that get together to ride from time to time in the Midwest. I know there is a tour in Stevens Point, Wisconsin once a year, but I live in northeastern Indiana and was wondering if there are any closer groups.

I've always fancied a go in something like the Mike Burrows designed "Windcheetah" trikes - but to be honest the price kind of puts me off... £3600ish for the clubsport that I may not get on with is a lot of cash to throw down...
I do fancy the Hypersport though...

fully loaded hypersport isn't far off that price either... £4253 for the base trike, £1400 for the aeropack, £155 for the front guards... £5808 on the road... I only paid £6500 for the Audi...
(maybe Mike could give me "family discount" )0 -
I got mine on craigslist for $675. If I bought it in a store it would have been $1600. It's a heavier trike but I do like the under sear steering. I don't have a photo right now. My husband has a long wheel base recumbent bike. He's the one that got me into it. He's now 50 and he used to be a competitive cyclist with all the gear. After several back surgeries he decided to go recumbent and has never looked back.0

Rule #25 // The bikes on top of your car should be worth more than the car.
Or at least be relatively more expensive. Basically, if you’re putting your Huffy on your Rolls, you’re in trouble, mister. Remember what Sean said!

ah, but the Audi was bought 12 years ago, is W registered and probably worth less than the spare wheels for the Dolan...
I "used" to be a bit of a petrolhead - with a car "back catalogue" that includes 3 ford cosworths (2 sierras and an escort), a Lancia Delta Integrale in stage 2 rally trim, A original Audi Coupe Quattro, An Audi S2 Coupe Quattro and a Volkswagen Golf V6-4motion before getting the A3 as a sensible company car... little did I know i'd be keeping it at least a decade longer than i'd planned...
(Yes, I used to have a job where frankly I had more money than I had time to do anything with it, so used to blow most of it on cars and Insurance premiums )0 -
Lucky you! Never been able to afford to be a real 'car nut', besides, I used to prefer Motorcycles. Now I just want a car which does as many miles to the gallon as possible & cost next to nowt to keep on the road...0

ah, motorbikes... yes, used to have a bit of a fondness for those as well - Ducati 900SS, Laverda Jota... Last one was a team-green Kawa ZXR750H1 (one of the "homologation specials" - the first 200 came with a "de-restriction kit" - which was basically the carb bodies from the 1000 and a stop-washer in the twistgrip you could remove) which I had clocked at the end of the straight at donnington at 179mph.
Now I drive like an old granny, and last year put less than 2,000 miles on the Audi...0 -

Think the nicest sounding one I had the pleasure to ride was actually my girlfriends Laverda Montjuic - mental race-track renegade, carbs with a wire mesh grille on them to stop small animals roosting in the bellmouth and iirc Lafranconi rear cans - megaphones not silencers in any way... the howl was absolutely blood-curdling! God only knows how she used to ride it - I still get forearm cramps at the thought of pulling the clutch in...0

I am in the UK, and am a former 'bent rider but found some old internet bookmarks for forums. The main one in the US looks like bentrideronline.com -- could try there for information. I enjoyed it, but on a custom made upwrong (as bent riders like to call them!) these days.
