Hey everyone! Sorry I've been MIA for a week. My recovery is slow. Much slower than I wanted. Grrrr. I've had 2 c-sections, so I figured the recovery would be similar...but it is much more difficult to recover from a hysterectomy. That said, the surgery went well, and my recovery the next day was faster than I expected. But when I got home it's been a bit like a yo-yo. I'll feel really good, then feel really awful. There hasn't been too much pain. But a lot of extreme fatigue. I'll sleep about 10 hours a night...plus a nap or two during the day. If I don't sleep enough, my body starts to act like it's sick. I'll get aches all over, in every muscle of my body. I've also been getting hot flashes and mood swings, which I was warned that after major surgery my ovaries would freak out a bit for a couple of months.
But I keep remembering the massive amounts of bleeding that were preventing me from being able to function and I'm grateful that as I recover from this I won't have to deal with that ever again. I'm also grateful for my mom. She took my kids all week last week at her house so I could just focus on resting. They came home last night. She is also coming over during the times my husband works to take care of household chores and the kids. She is amazing. Also, I'm thankful for my church family, who are bringing me meals this week so my husband won't have to cook on top of trying to keep the household functioning.
Overall, I'm doing better. Mentally I'm going a bit stir crazy. I feel a little pang whenever I see my bike or my workout clothes. No excerise except walking for 8 weeks. So end of January I can finally start training again! I'm hoping by the end of this week to start taking my dogs for short little walks to start getting my stamina back up.
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend! I didn't have a chance to keep up with how everyone is doing. So I might ask for clarification on things you already explained. My appologies. It feels good to be back with you ladies!0 -
val, try to contain your eagerness, because you must heal well in order to get back to training in that timeframe. Trying to do too much too soon will nullify that timeframe and set you back. It's hard when the heart wants to do what the body can't, but worth the wait vs. further injury. Sounds like you have great help, so use that rest to heal.
I hope the side effects settle down for you soon.
Today I'm calling it a rest day. I had a meeting with my son that took up most of the afternoon, although we walked some, to find a bus, so I'll probably get all my steps today. Mainly, I'm just terribly sore from yesterday's workout. And not even the muscles I expected--it's my calves, lower back, and hip flexors which are sore. I was expecting quads and hamstrings. Oh, and my chest! That I did expect. Need recovery time before hitting it tomorrow. Oh, found out no school tomorrow, but hopefully will still have afternoon for gym.

Hello, hello!
I'm alive! I spent a week out of town with family and was computer-free. I also liked not wearing makeup.
It was challenging to be around really good food/out to great restaurants/etc the whole time but wonderful to see my family and kiddos playing together. I gained 2lbs (happy it wasn't more) and got back on the wagon when I got home.
Went to the market yesterday and am ready for a healthy week! Slept through my alarm (jet-lag) but went for an afternoon stroll at work even though I couldn't get anyone to go with me.
I'll be catching up on the posts and hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!
Val, I hope that you continue healing and taking it easy. Absolutely better to be safe than sorry...even when you're itchy to exercise! That's a NSV right there0 -
Take care Val. Use this as time to catch up on some good books and watch some corny Xmas movies on Hallmark! I was feeling tired from work and frustrated and after a few silly life is happy ever after movies it brought me up!
I am working retail at Christmas...don't think I have to say more! Already tired and month just started...
Too tired to work out in my early Monday class so just going Wednesday afternoons are on day off.
Getting exercise carrying heavy boxes and jugs at work.
