Having A Food Identity Crisis!

So I really believe that Paleo is the best way for me. In my heart, I believe that. With Celiac and grain issues, it is right. Right? I have been cheating this week with GF bread and such and I have found that I actually am eating less, because I am more satisfied once I ate that GF sandwich for lunch, or that mashed potatoes with my turkey. I also believe in low carb, so what gives here? Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me? I am surprised to find my belly is also calmer than I expected for these transgressions. I usually have a lot of distress and bloating and I am not now.

    Cindy,
I don't have any words of wisdom, but I know that feeling, although it's usually short-lived for me. I sometimes go from vegetarian to Primal Blueprint then back again, and my body feels great eating vegetarian, but I know it's not gonna lower my blood sugar, and it will lead to sugar binging. In the long run, it's damaging me. Sometimes our brains have other ideas than the body, it's tough, but I know in the long term, PB is the best way of eating for me.

Hope that you find some clarity soon!

Well, "Ask and you shall receive" definitely worked for me! I just got that piece of clarity I needed! I went for my annual fasting labs on Friday, after having been struggling for a while now, and I did not like what I saw! I just had some labs taken for work about a month ago, and my numbers have suffered just in the past month alone! Definitely not a coincidence that I haven't been eating well or exercising consistently. The most shocking, and the one that is sending me RUNNING back to Paleo/Primal is my glucose. I did a solid 12 hour fast, actually almost 13, and my glucose was 104!! It has never been high before, it is usually 80-85 on a shorter fast of like 8 hours. So clarity has hit me in the face this morning and here I go to get back on track!

I think feeling fine for a week would be normal.... but you may not feel so fine after a month or year. Even with all the ups and downs of my Paleo journey I am the healthiest I have ever been, can have a few transgressions without too many bad effects IF I get myself back on track before too long, and it's very sustainable to just focus on eating real food, not calories, or any other nonsense. I might stray but it will never be for long. Sick, fat, and dying sucked and I didn't get to that point in a week but I can get back there within a few months so I keep that in my mind at all times.
