Thank you for sharing that. Low carbs can help me lose a little, but it so hard for me to stick to b/c I don't eat meat. I always end up binging on carbs when I try to deprive myself of them. I wonder if having such low calories when we were growing made our bodies react or process carbs a little differently? Or just be really stubborn and not want to let go of fat? Have you ever had your BMR tested? and did you try a metabolism reset? I am in the process of trying now, and I have already had quite a bit of improvement with how I feel but I have my doubts if I can get enough improvement to be normal. In the past for me to lose anything I have to have a huge calorie deficit and exercise like crazy, an hour to two hours a day intense exercise and still only lose about a pound a week or less when the calculators say I should be losing 4. (just guesstimating from when I maintain and when I lose, my TDEE is off by over 1000 from the calculators right now) Is there anything else besides low carb and high protein that you have done and had it help? And how accurate do you find the calculations from here or any site for you? Are they as off for you as they are me? Its pretty discouraging to think that I would have to work this hard to lose weight and then to keep it off Id have to continue exercising at least an hour a day for ever and never eat much, that's why I am praying this metabolism reset helps, its kinda my last hope.

Have you tried maybe increasing your fat intake? Good fats of course. I did that last week and have since bumped it up to 40%. I have to tell you, I feel a lot more energized with higher fat than with carbs. I ate a lot of almonds, avocado, salmon, eggs (those are what I mostly stuck to for a week) but there are plenty of others. Right now I am trying a mix of Paleo type eating, but you say you don't like meat, so that might be hard for you. With an increase in calories, plus higher fat intake, is probably what is keeping me energized. GO figure. Just got to stay off the scale for a couple weeks while I let my body adjust.

Yeah those kind of diets are tough with not liking meat. I will eat a little chicken once and awhile. I can try more nuts and eggs though.

My non-meat go tos: nuts, eggs, tuna fish, cottage cheese, cheese in general (yum), avocados, yogurt & protein smoothies. And remember, there truly is nothing wrong with carbs.

You've damaged your metabolism very much in the past so please note that this is going to take time. If you haven't already joined the forum on the EM2WL website, you should.

    Mind if I jump in?
If you don't care for meat, besides a little chicken once in a while, have you considered these other sources besides the eggs (which are perfect), you might consider legumes (peas) and beans (any but black, garbanzo, edamame are good),tempeh and tofu, seeds (chia, hemp, sunflower) and nuts/nut butters, grains such as quinoa and seitan, greens such as spinach and broccoli. Of course, seafood is good also, but some people think of it as meat.

You can google something like 'protein, not meat' and you will get a lot of ideas and recipes.

    good luck

Just make sure you check out the completeness of those proteins, and since many of those are not, mixing correctly to get full protein usefulness.

Does no good eating 120 g of incomplete protein and say only 60 g can be used by the body as the amino acids it wants. Which then means it's converted to carbs and burned off.

Like black eyed peas currently featured here, and you'll find protein completeness score is great.

Though with 3 x the carbs as protein, not really high protein, just good ratio in general.

nK112 Unfortunately I dont like seafood either. I can def try to include more beans and nuts. Thank you for the help and yes I'll Google and look for more. I'm not getting anywhere close to enough right now. And halebales I had no idea some proteins couldn't be used by the body. I have a lot to learn still :) Thank you.

They can be used, just not as protein for cell repair, ect, basically burned off you might say. With elevated insulin after eating for 3-4 hrs, you got a window while the body is trying to make use of it and insulin and trying to help shuttle it to where it's needed.
This was a short write up. If say leucine is low but there, then only some of all the other amino acids that could be plentiful, won't be useful. Only a % of them will be usable.
