Where is everyone?

When I joined this group this fall I did so because there seemed to be so many supportive people. I was really attracted to the info you shared about T2 and your encouragement. I miss that now. Except for a few of us posting BG readings, we seem so inactive. How about we reach out more to one another as we motivate each other to find a healthy life style?

    Amber/Toni;

"Activity" in any given group, naturally tends to "ebb and flow".

Sometimes, especially in many of the main forum groups, it does so as a result of just a few "hard core" zealots who feel a need to belittle, intimidate, and "bully" anyone that doesn't "tow the company line" and has the audacity to even bring up an idea that doesn't comport with what they (the self proclaimed "experts") just "know" is what is "right" for EVERYBODY.

Other times, it's the result of the group itself not providing enough "current, up to date" resources and discussion of relevant topics and the members (or "visitors") simply decide it's not worth their time to participate.

So the "activity" level becomes almost a self-fulling prophecy - not enough activity so "regulars" don't post, not enough threads for others to comment or participate in so they don't, and not enough "activity" when visitors stop in for a "look-see" so they don't stick around. Full circle.

I'm not sure how one changes the dynamic or even if one individual can do it but my concern is more for the folks, especially the "newbies", seeking both "support" and "information" and is either not able to find it, or, if they do think they are in the "right place", it takes too long for them to receive a reply to their questions.

I "check in" here both because I am "borderline" T2D and because my FIL is "full blown" and my bride and I deal with his situation daily. I've contributed on occasion (admittedly not as much as I probably should have so as much of a "part of the problem" and not the "solution"), but quite frankly, the lack of "activity" has left me much less inclined to do so and to spend my time on other groups with similar interests and much more activity.

There are only so many hours in a day and while in my youth I would have considered it a "mission" to do what I could to bolster activity here, as the years go by, both energy levels and the youthful idealism wane.

I'm certain that there are those who consider my suggestions that some might benefit by expanding their horizons and at least looking in to other groups that might better meet their needs, as "hijacking" members and I doubt there's much I can say that would dispel that notion in their minds but I truly do believe that the motivation is the best interests of those seeking assistance and there is no reason any particular individual cannot participate in and decide for themselves "any" groups they find meet their needs.

As previously noted, the Low Carbers Daily Group is NOT just "low carb", per se. It's NOT dedicated to any one particular "low carb" dogma, nor does it advocate even that "low carb" is "right" for everyone. It's NOT "atkins", "paleo", "primal", although some of its members follow each of those protocols.

It's NOT a "cult" or "fad" diet that says you "must" eat this or that you "absolutely cannot" eat that.

It IS a group that is almost equally split between those looking to just lose weight and those looking for a "healthier" way to eat motivated by medical "issues" (IR and T2D e.g. as well as many others). Probably the largest proportion of the member base is concerned with both.

So my best "advice", for ALL of those who might be interested, is to stop by and have a look around. I can promise that you'll be welcomed with open arms should you decide to stick around, your questions will be replied to in short order, and regardless of your particular circumstances, you'll find any number of resident members with similar concerns ready, willing, and able to provide whatever assistance and/or "support" you desire.

Feel free to have a look and decide for yourself if it's "right" for you. If it is, we look forward to your participation. If it's not, at least you tried and hopefully you will find a group that "is".

Hope to see you there soon and here's a link that will take you directly to the group. (Scroll down past the "announcements" section to the current "discussions" - announcements is currently "under construction" and in the process of being updated).

When they reworked the forums layout a few months back the groups were taken off the main page. I think a lot of people were frustrated with navigating to the groups so participation dropped off. They have moved the groups back to the main page so perhaps traffic will pick up.

Not certain what you meant by 'They have moved the groups back to the main page..." ...
The groups a person belongs to do show up on the Main Community Page at the very bottom ... but you can also see the ones you belong to from the Groups menu on the Community Page menu bar ... at least on a desk top PC.

You still do not see any groups or threads you have commented on or any links to them on your home or profile page ... and you cannot bookmark threads you are interested in from within a group. ... so still no easy find.

I have followed this group for a while, joined and left, joined and left ... for exactly that reason that no one every seems to post any more than their morning BG reading and that's only from a hands worth of people.

One way, however, to see which threads in a group you are interested in is to still click the bookmark star ... at least that way you can spot the thread more quickly when you get into the group.
