By way of an "update", there has been quite of bit of work going on behind the scenes on updating and improving the Group "Announcements" (aka "FAQs") section for our Group.
Between the holidays and the fact that it's a much more involved task than many of us might have anticipated, and that each of us actually have "lives" outside the group that demand our time and attention, what we originally had hoped would be a "quick and dirty" rewrite, is proving to be more time consuming than any of us imagined.
As a group though, the mods are in total agreement that it's much more important that we do it "right" than it is that we do it "quickly".
One component of the final product will be a comprehensive listing of "low carb" resources (books, videos, external websites, etc) aimed not only at "newbies" but also "old hands". A "one stop" repository for all those things you've "heard about" but forgot to bookmark and now can't find the link (haven't we all?).
Think of it as our "library", reference resource, whatever.
Our intent is to have individual listings (sub topics) for each type of resource (books, videos, etc), which might then be further organized by sub-sub, topic (books>types of LC diets>atkins/paleo/primal/etc) to make a "search" easier for members to "drill down" through to find what they are looking for (since MFP groups have no "search" function).
To start organizing and collecting suggested references we could REALLY use your help and input. In addition, we believe that this will be "your" list (all of ours), and it's important to us that we involve as many members of the group in the process as is possible.
It's also important that we cover as much of the LC spectrum as possible in order to offer exposure to all of the possible alternatives any of our members or guests might be interested in.
Here's how you can assist the effort.
First, there will be SEPARATE threads for each topic (books, videos, etc). PLEASE post your contributions ONLY to the appropriate thread (books on "books", videos on "videos", etc. Doing so will make it MUCH easier for us to collate the suggestions and will also provide individual "dedicated" threads for each type that group members (and "newbies") can refer to in the meantime until the "final version" is ready for prime time. It will also be the thread(s) that members can continue to add new suggestions to as time goes on keeping it current and up to date.
Post the title and author of the video
Post the hyperlink to the video you are suggesting
Add a short (1 or 2 sentence) "comment/review" describing why you are rec-ing it
Suggest a subcategory that you think it would best fit under (i.e. an "atkins" video under "atkins videos")
For books, if a "kindle" (e-book) version is available, please post the link to that since it is the most economical and preferred source for most and would also provide those who prefer a "hard copy" to obtain one if that is their preference. If no kindle link is available however that does NOT mean it can't be included on the list (just provide a link to wherever it is available).
THANKS in advance for your help and your contributions - they will be a BIG HELP and greatly accelerate the process.
Remember, this thread is the "VIDEOS" thread, so please post ONLY references to VIDEOS here - there will be a separate thread(s) set up for BOOKS and other main topics, so please post them there.
So, to get the ball rolling, here's an example posting: (you might want to copy/paste these four and replace the items with your own, it will keep the order and consistency)
1) "Tim Noakes talk at Physical IQ"
2) http://tinyurl.com/l2hshop
3) Prof. Noakes addresses the question "Why are we so unhealthy when we eat the "healthy diet"?
4) List under "Video - general"

This is the video that cemented low carb for me. Also for my husband which meant I had his full support and participation as well which was the clincher.

Dr. Peter Attia: The limits of scientific evidence and the ethics of dietary guidelines -- 60 years of ambiguity
http://vimeo.com/45485034
Dr. Attia gives a great talk on the history of the "low-fat" indoctrination and how it's entirely politically motivated and how the science has actually been quite clear about the relationship between dietary fat and heart disease risk (ie - the scientific community has been pretty clear that there is no link).
I'd probably list it under a "Newbie" section, or perhaps somewhere that focuses on breaking down the fat-phobia indoctrination.0 -
Fat Head (2009) [Hulu link for those it works for]
Pretty good movie and reasonably funny and enjoyable to watch.
List under "General -- Anecdotes"
The Perfect Human Diet (2012) [Amazon Streaming if you have it]
A decent movie, but slow and not one you'll likely want to watch more than once.
List under "Science"
Cereal Killers: Don't Fear Fat (2013) [Yekra]
A pretty interesting movie in that it focuses on health, not weight loss.
List under "General -- Anecdotes"
Fed Up (2014) [Various sites through this link]
More anti-sugar than low-carb and it's highly political, but still an ok movie.
List under "Anti-Sugar"
Carb Loaded: A Culture Dying to Eat [Various]
I haven't seen this, yet. It is on my list to watch.
List under "???" Let me download it and watch it and I will let you know.

3) November 2014 Presentation given in Melbourne focuses on his two most recent books but in addition to promoting the books he presents a very good, basic, explanation of much of the current thinking on ketogenic diets in general and LCHF specifically. An excellent overview for newbies and a good "refresher and updater" for old timers.

Dr. Peter Attia -- The Straight Dope on Cholesterol
A great talk on cholesterol in the body and its relation to heart disease.
List under General or Science (it's a bit technical, but he does a great job putting it in plain English)

Dr. Peter Attia -- What If Blaming the Obese is Blaming the Victims?
His talk on how he realized that he was blaming the obese for their obesity, and how his perception changed when he realized that obesity doesn't necessarily cause insulin resistance, but that insulin resistance causes obesity.
List under General or Misc (it doesn't really go into a lot of detail and is more his story of his perception change and recalling his experience with a diabetic amputee)1 -

In case the video shows up on this one instead of the link, here's the link text:

Seems the new system will load the video if you just link a Youtube video, instead of making it a link.1 -
I've made a channel in YouTube in order to both have an archive for myself and to be able to send relevant playlists to people I care about.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwTDDNv4xIL8Lx1UevSCwfg/playlists
The themes are roughly:
Intro LCHF/KETO/METABOLISM
- For those who don't know anything about LCHF and might (not) be interested in finding out more.
Advanced LCHF/KETO/METABOLISM/WEIGHTLOSS
- For those that want to find out more about how metabolism really works and info related to that topic.
Athletic aspirations
- For those who are combining keto with high volume of training like me.
-
I have also made lists about obesity/weightloss and autoimmune diseases, although all of the themes are linked to each other, so a video could be featured in almost all the lists. I'll update lists as I come over more videos.
Please take into account that I made these lists according to my personal preferences. I screen lots of videos each week. Many videos may have initial interesting points, but float into nonsense, especially if they are more like video podcasts. I only add videos that made me understand something better or gave me new insight in some respect.
If you want to subscribe, that's cool. If you don't want to subscribe, that's ok too1 -

Long boring interview with Phinney and Volek, but chock-full of good information. The interviewer asks the best questions -- sodium? maintenance? high fat? exercise? keto-adaptation? All clarified here:
