I created a spreadsheet for us
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Kv2JYFYt_DZ6Yod2pK5O3LDxQD79tMnA-et0sCKaQGc/edit?usp=sharing
Please add your name (and then sort the name column by hovering over 'A', clicking the wee arrow, and selecting 'sort A-Z' so we stay in order and can find ourselves later)
FOR THOSE WORKING IN KM:
When you add your name, please do so in RED TEXT (there is a font colour option on the toolbar just above the sheet, next to the bold/italic/strike buttons). On January 1st (probably around midday GMT), when everyone has hopefully added themselves, I will adjust your 'total' cell to automatically convert from km to mi.
Unfortunately, I cannot do this for all the individual days. Enter your mileage for each day in km, and your 'total' will show completion in miles. This is just so everybody's 'total' is in the same measurement

Added some formatting so that your 'left to goal' miles change colour depending how close your are, from red through green. Bit of fun, really.0 -
Thank you! I will Add my name shortly!0
-
Thanks0
-
Thanks, I'm in!0
-
Ok I hope it worked. I've never edited one of those before.0
-
Can't edit the spreadsheet to add my name is that because I'm on my iPad and not my computer?0
-
Finally got it. Had to change my browser to Chrome, Safari wouldn't do it.0
-
Okey doke. KM people so far: your code has been updated to auto-covert the total. Remember to LOG YOUR DAILY DISTANCE IN KM. Thanks. Feel free to have a play with it before we start so you can see it in action.
I'll edit anyone else as necessary tomorrow.
"total/to goal" have been protected to stop accidental editing/deleting. They're automatically updating fields and don't need to be changed
NOTE
IF YOU'RE WORKING IN KM AND ADD YOUR NAME AFTER JAN 1 -PLEASE- SEND ME A PM SO I CAN WORK MY MAGIC OTHERWISE I MIGHT MISS YOU AND YOUR TOTAL WILL BE ALL WONKY. Cheers.0 -
Sorry, even though I set the total to protected it appears all the code for the KM people has been accidentally deleted so er... that didn't work. Can you please re-highlight your name in red and I'll fix it up again.
AND PLEASE. DO NOT EDIT THE TOTAL/TO GOAL FIELDS. THEY ARE AUTOMATIC. YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO ANYTHING TO THEM.0 -
I was able to add my name and log miles but was not able to put in alpha order?0
-
Ugh it got messed up AGAIN. Somehow people's names are going out of alignment with their miles. I have no idea how that's even happening.0
-
Right. I've got an idea of why it was. I think locking the total to prevent editing by other people meant that if anyone else sorted alphabetically the totals don't move with them?
So I'm unlocking the total fields. Please DO NOT edit the total fields.
Also please check your miles as the late arrivals may have put you out of sync. Hopefully all the issues should be resolved now0 -
My name disappeared!!
Can I add again without creating a whole mess?0 -
Oop sorry that might have been me (Sort of? Kinda?) I noticed an empty name field so deleted the row, assuming someone had put a blank row in by accident. So I guess someone else accidentally deleted your name first, I just took out the row haha.
Yes, go ahead and re-add yourself. Everything should be working again now I've removed the range protection. Sorry, everyone. My attempt at preserving the 'totals' formulas from accidental deletion/editing backfired and made the whole thing go squiffy when the sheet got sorted by anyone other than me. My bad.

Thanks for your answer and you don't need to apologize. You've done all the work!!
Sorry to ask something again. I've add my name and today's walk but it didn't count my 'total' and 'to goal'.
I'm pretty good with excel spreadsheet but didn't want to touch anything and correct it without your permission.
Can you have a look at it?0 -
Edit, never mind, found it; it was just in a different place. However, my data disappeared. I never used Google stuff, info automatically gets saved, right?0

I've added the code for your total and goal, so it should be appearing now. You are in km, right? I noticed your name was in red0 -

Hi, I have added my name and miles so far, but it is not appearing in the 'total' or 'to goal' columns.0

Spreadsheet's looking good today, thanks Lexbubbles!
Phew!
A few reminders:- Please double-check your miles from the first 2 days as some people's data got accidentally out of alignment on Friday
- If you're in KM, write your name in red again please. I know there are more than 4 of you, and I apologise for the hiccup.
- Please DO NOT edit the 'total' field. It is automatically calculated. You do not need to do anything to it. Protecting it so that people couldn't is unfortunately was caused everything to get messed up first time around. Just leave it. It's quite happy working by itself and doing its thang. All you gotta do is put your miles in each day. Thank.

Thanks for setting this up Lexbubbles.
I am logging in Km and have already adjusted the B Column so that it converts my values to kms.
As to the mysterious Rows that showed Km logged but no name I wonder if the OP may have accidentally set the background to Red and their name to Red causing a phantom blank. ( an old trick done to hide data in a public/open spreadsheet - or used to mess with peoples minds).
Don't know if I will make the 100 miles - I am part of the Alexander Mackenzie 100 km Swimming challenge at our local pool and from April 1 to Dec 31,2014 I managed 118 km's ( 73.3 Miles ) - ( The high km person had 450 km { 279.6 miles } ) and I guestimate that I had about the same distance (118 km's ) in my running. Extrapolate that out to the year and I should theoretically manage about 314 km ( 195.5 miles) for the year. looks like I need to step it up a bit to increase my kilometers for each month.0 -
Hi Lexbubbles! Thanks for setting up the spreadsheet! I know your supposed to divide your biking miles by two I guess, but what about color coding the mileage entries when we each put them in? Like Blue for Bike, and Red for Run and Green for walk, or something like that just to get an easy visual representation of what we're doing? Voluntary of course for everyone, but maybe it would be too confusing? Let me know?0

@ Tremellas & @ Lexbubbles
Nice Idea - unfortunately I have some days when I do two different exercises, there for I would end up picking the color for the one with the most calories.0 -

Yeah, this. A lot of people do multiple exercises in the same day so it wouldn't really work. Of course you're welcome to colour your own miles however you like if you want a visual record for yourself.0 -

Thanks! Yes I for some reason didn't think of that even though I also have multiple exercises lol I don't know why I didn't think about that, I might do it for my own and see how I like it, maybe an orange for a run/walk day...

The spreadsheet has been updated with a TAB for February.juliet3455 wrote: »It's on.

Thanks to lexbubbles for adding the Tab and changing the name to indicate a year long challenge.0 -
