Tonic water and Diabetic nerve damage

My doctor recently recommended drinking tonic water to help relieve the symptoms of diabetic nerve damage. I have been doing this and it does seem to help but I noticed that tonic water is very high in sugar--36 grams per 12 ounce can. Is there sugar free tonic water? The stuff tastes disgusting but I add a little lemon juice or a sugar free water "enhancer" to make it a little more palatable but it is still bad. I'm not real fond of artificial sweeteners but the amount of sugar in this seems very high.

A little Tanqueray and a squeeze of lime helps with the flavor.

There is a sugar free variety of tonic water. A friend of mine puts Crystal Lite in hers.
