Happy Sunday Folks!

Got Get em Jen!

Arturo - Get all the info / test you can. I did that in September and it really served to confirm to me that I am doing the right stuff. It also showed me some places to improve (HbA1c). When you get your results you might want to check this
- bengreenfieldfitness.com/2014/05/most-comprehensive-blood-test/

Heron - From an Old Infantry guy I got to tell you you give some great advice on foot maintenance.

My FMBG this morning was 93 so now have three straight days below 105 gonna hold back on the supp stack this morning till after training. See how that goes am uping the weights today should be an interesting session.

Runtastic app on app store is free right now if you have an iPhone. I haven't used it yet but it looks like it's way better than Nike+ in terms of data and functionality.

Android users can use this code: FREE-UBTP-XPTP and the app will be free for you too.

Wow, guys! I think a fried egg over raw, or slightly wilted spinach, might just be my new favorite thing!

TJ- great work on the jaunting. I saw you and Heron talking Tabata in last week's thread. While at the moment I think you should just stick with the walking, I do believe pretty emphatically that eventually you need to add in some sprinting. One way is jog or run for 20-30 seconds and then walk for as long as necessary to get your breath fully back down to normal. Repeat. Do maybe 3-5 times as part of your walks. Shouldn't trigger your asthma if you get fully (really fully, not breathing faster than normal at all) recovered between efforts. It will however greatly improve your cardiac & pulmonary health. Not to mention triggering some great fat burning hormonal changes. While I never espouse. Traditional cardio (unless your sport is running like Chris), I think everyone should do a little sprinting. Keep your jaunts at a nice stroll, one day a week just pop out some sprints during your stroll.

I'm lucky my neighborhood hills cause natural sprints. At first just walking. As I got fitter, just walking them wouldn't peak my heart rate, so I'd jog while mentally counting to 30 or 40. Then the next hill was far enough away that I'd recover. I was able to work in sprints, without really trying. Amazing how this positively impacted my mountain biking and climb recovery.

TJ - I don't run anymore either, but I do use Tabata Timer once a week during one of my walks and pick up the pace to a walking sprint. I've done this with some of my co workers and even though they are runners they find it challenging. Might want to give it a go some good free tabata timer aps in the ApStore. Key is test your limits for a short duration small rest and repeat. I think you'd feel a benefit within a few short weeks. BTW great work on the Jaunt so far.

Resting, going to church h and cooling my heels. Never knew what that meant... now I do... Blisters hurt lol!

Have not been eating real well (not real bad, just not consistently good) but not gaining, and am seeing added definition so I think that's a good thing lol.

  • Good morning everybody. Rough night last night. I got maybe 5 hours of sleep but it wasn't in anything longer than an hour. :( I will still make the best of the day.

Jen - Bummer on the sleep, mine wasn't great last night either but I got to bed earlier so got enough feel OK today, and HRV was solid green.

Kevin - Definition is def a good thing. Keep rollin once the blisters heal.

Good News Bad News the Bad News is I lost my Fitbit yesterday, given the time of the last sync it should be somewhere in the house or yard, but no joy on finding it. The Good news is FMBG is 93 so below 100 for 4 days straight.

A bit of History - I started checking my Glucose levels in August pretty much on a whim just sort of curious. FMBG was generally around 105 - 125 but by 9 or 10 would be in the 80-90's. did the post postprandial checks and recovery was good always below 100 within 2 hrs post meal. Had a check up coming up in Sep so ran a log for a month on Web MD and requested loads of blood tests for my appointment since I knew I could compare results with Ben Greenfield, (turning 60 so compare to a 30 something Tri Athelte) and interested to see what Doctor said. Started doing research and found that for pre diabetics low dose Metformin had good results in getting FMBG better results so had that in mind when I had my appointment.
Well 15 tubes of blood later, got the results, and found my my Triglyceride:HDL 2.162 (pretty good) IGF-1 =180 (smack in the middle of WNL range, Testosterone, Free Testosterone, Sex Hormone Binding Globulin, all very good and at the bottom edge of the upper half of Normal Range. One marker was out of normal range and that was LDL (135) not far out and with no particle test to see if it was small particle LDL no real worries since my total Cholesterol was good and HDL was over 40. Hba1c was 6 but norm range for the test is 4.8-7.8. So no Metformin prescribed Doc said keep working on the diet and see what you can do.
Did some more research and found both a supplemental methodology and fasting protocols that seem to have had success with this so the N=1 started after Christmas since I will have test again in March or April.

Anyway that's how I do stuff plod along set the parameters run the test check results. N=1 is a hobby of mine now. In so small part to Carol and the Podcast and sharing it here is a bigger benefit for me than doing the tests.

Have a great Monday Folks time to Jaunt.
  • Thanks John. I'm not feeling too bad, yet. :sleepy: Sorry to hear your Fitbit has gone missing. Too bad you can't just go online and find it (wait, I guess that won't really help if you know it's in your house - hehehe).

I listened to the latest podcast last night/this morning and I am intrigued by this tough mudder thing. I'm seriously considering doing the Las Vegas one now, despite my complete lack of what the heck it is or if I can even handle it. Or maybe I just want a reason to meet some of the AWESOME people from the community. To those who have already done these things, what should I do to prepare? Now that I'm getting out and moving, once spring kicks in I will be doing even more (including getting out on some hikes).

I know the community has a team captained by John. What all is necessary to get signed up (once I make a decision)?

Morning all! Blisters are feeling much better. Glad I read to NOT pop them, it's making a big difference. Just like diet related things it's amazing how many things we always been told but that is completely incorrect.

Jen I hear you on the sleep, our 2 year old keeps waking up at 1:30 with a bad dream... like clockwork. The broken up sleep is about to kill me...

I've been struggling with my sleep for probably the last 3 months. Had some issues with reflux (gone now that I don't drink soda), headaches (gone now that I am past the aspartame withdrawals) and stress due to work-issues (gone now as well). So all of my known factors are gone. Sometimes though, I just can't get to sleep. As long as it's not a regular thing, it's no big deal.

Sorry to hear your little on keeps waking up. I do not miss those days. You tend to run on autopilot after a while, not knowing what time or day it is. Hopefully things will change soon and the broken up sleep will be a thing of the past.

Jen, I got on Amazon to order some curtain rods, and the first suggested item was Well Fed! It's like I HAD to buy it! So, I ordered it for my Kindle. I've never READ a cookbook! It actually kept me up past when I should have gone to sleep, but I just couldn't stop reading. I look forward to using it. I love the Hot Plates idea.

LOL TJ! Well I guess I better go pick it up myself. Funny you mention keeping you up. I put on the latest podcast last night because I couldn't sleep. Darn it if JT and Carol were so entertaining that I couldn't actually go to sleep!!! Note to self: don't listen to the F2FHQ podcasts if you want to sleep! :)

No, not me. I think it might have been Heron or Kim who originally mentioned it.

I just bought it for my tablet.

John, that sucks about your Fitbit, I love that you post data about your health.

Funny how a bunch of us did not have a good night sleep. Me included. I woke up with a migraine and was useless for most of the day. It's better now hence me checking in. Reading you guys' post cheered me up

I think the well fed book is recommended by Sarah or Sharon. Apologies to whomever it was if I got your name wrong.
I broke my induction (day 9) yesterday for no good reason. I know carbs are not good for you but I really hate that I have limited options when I'm in a social setting. In the past I've done great but I think The holiday put me out of that mindset and I'm a little frustrated with the ULC lifestyle even though I've never felt this good in my life. I'm also pretty sure that still carrying my holiday weight. Oh well, it's a relapse and Arturo and I had a good talk yesterday about health and mindset and I'm just gonna try harder.
On the plus side over the weekend, I went to a self defense seminar and learned some very simple and intuitive moves that requires very little strength to overcome an attacker when you are on the ground. AND I scored some great stuff at a clothing swap.

:'(:'(:'( There is no snow at the place where we usually go dog sledding in the sierras. No dog sledding this year. I am bummed. That also means that California will have another rough year because we depend on the snow caps for water as well.
