Good morning! Took the day off to sight in some rifles, taking the wife to breakfast thid morning as well. Had to finish up some reloading last night and my 223/556 brass kept getting stuck in the dies. I was up till 3:00 this morning just trying to get my brass sized!.... even drank a coke to keep alert whill working....
Oh well feeling ok so far today. Lots of ammo to burn, lots of steel to ring so it's gonna be a good day!0 -
Markd, I had seen a book in a store once, and I forgot what it was called. When you mentioned Vampire Earth, that is definitely it! Thanks for reminding me. I had first seen the Winter Duty book, and would have picked it up, but I looked it up and realized that it was pretty far into the series.
Has anyone read any of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series? I read American Assassin, because it popped up on my Kindle for sale. It was a really good spy/government hitman type book. After I read it, I found out that it was a prequel to a relatively long series.0 -

HA! The first Internet forum I ever joined my username is Mitch Rapp. That was in 05. My oldest boy? His name is Mitch. I am a serious fan, and Vince Flynn is by far the best author I have ever read. Start with Term Limits (not a Mitch Rapp book but it is the first in the series) and do t look back. You can tell a difference from the early books when Vince did not know as much, or have as many contacts inside DC or the Military/CIA but they are all amazing reads. If I could only pick one fiction series to read ever again it would be his. And that's after having read all of them at least 2-3 times. Sadly Vince passed away about a year and a half ago, but his family is letting someone else continue the story. "The Survivor" which Vince had started will be out this fall hopefully. Also if you do the audio books, all but the first is read by George Guidall, the best reader I have ever listened to.

Kevin, like I said, I read American Assassin first, and it was amazing, so I researched it and started reading Term Limits, immediately. I definitely noticed what you're saying about his changing style and knowledge. Especially going from his latest (at the time) to his first, back to back. I guess a lit changed in those 13 years. It's sad that he's gone, especially for how young he was. I would read during my breaks at work, because we had 2 mandatory 15 minute breaks, and I disliked most everyone I worked with, so I would sit in a lady's office and read. I got a lot of reading done that way, but I no longer work there, so I don't read as much, lately. I need to start Term Limits back up. The thing I love about Flynn is that his writing invokes vivid visualizations for me, so it's like I'm watching a movie. Even the "scene" with two bloody, beaten, dirty men running around, naked, with rifles messing people up! lol
I guess I got lucky that it was a prequel, and not the actual 11th book in a series.0 -
I posted this in the FB challenge page but I also wanted to post it here.
It's been about a month since I started eating healthier (and cleaner). I'm not completely there but I have eliminated soda and artificial sweeteners and most processed foods. I've cut back dramatically on meat as well. One thing I'm noticing now is that I am never really all that hungry. I used to feel hungry all the time (whether real or imaginary, I don't know). I'm actually forcing myself to eat something for dinner some evenings. Has anyone else dealt with this and is this normal?0 -
Jennifer, to my knowledge it is normal. I know that it happens a lot less now than it used to, probably me just getting more used to the new "normal". What I have found is that if I don't watch it I go longer between eating, and that is also not the best thing to do.0

Ok on my laptop, for some reason when I post loner post on my phone, it messes up the post..
Kevin, sounds like a great day!!
I have been reading the patriots but it's sloooow. It's just his writing style, I think the stories are great but I feel (just my opinion) that when he goes into these little details on specs and whatnot, it messes with the flow. That's why I didn't recommend it to carol as her first choice. For someone who doesn't know much about guns or that cultural, a lot of stuff would miss her or feel dry like reading a textbook.
I'm halfway through, but I'm not in a rush to finish it either.
Love the book talk, I'm gonna check out some of the suggestions. I just don't like series. Trilogy sure, but if the author is just churning out books for series then I don't like it. It's like those soap opera that never ends! Instead of focusing on the story the author is trying to stretch it out to sell more books. Which is perfectly fine I'm just not the target audience lol
Jen, I'm glad you are eating cleaner. Long time ago, when I was embarking on my weight loss journey, I did the same thing thing you did, calorie restriction, my goal was 1200K like you; I wasn't eating processed food and I've never been a soda drinker but I rarely hit my calorie allowance (I'm always over) and I was not pleasant haha. So, for the no hunger thing, I've only experienced it when I am on a ULC high fat diet and I totally get what you are saying when you don't experience hunger like you used to. Yay no hunger! Its a great feeling!
Oh Last night's bacon wrapped pheasant was a hit. Fagiano alla Contadina: Pheasant, Farmer Style
(The recipe calls for pancetta but I used bacon since I have bacon) I'll use that same recipe for chicken next time. That tomato sauce tasted like I've cooking it for hours. I'll post it on the recipe section. Easy and took less than an hour0 -
I didn't have parsley so I skipped that part
Fagiano alla Contadina: Pheasant, Farmer Style
Ingredients
2 small pheasants
2 tablespoons lardo or fat back
1 onion, diced
4 sage leaves
2 bay leaves
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 rosemary branches
1 (16-ounce) can peeled tomatoes and their juices, crushed by hand
1 ladle chicken stock (see attached)
8 slices pancetta
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Directions
Quarter the birds and season with salt and pepper. In a 14 to 16-inch skillet, heat the lardo over high heat. Sear the poultry on all sides, then remove to a plate and reserve.
Add the onion, sage, bay leaves, garlic, and rosemary and cook over high heat 5 minutes. Add the stock and tomatoes, bring to a boil, and return the poultry to the pan, each piece wrapped in pancetta (secure with a toothpick if necessary). Reduce to a simmer and cook, uncovered, 30 minutes, or until juices run clear from a piece of the bird.
Remove bird pieces to a serving platter, check sauce for seasoning, stir in parsley and spoon over pieces.

Jen - yep very normal, I would suggest maybe keeping it very light at lunch and try getting more nutrients and what carbs you're getting at dinner. If you're checking macros shoot for around 70-100 g of carbs per day and 0.5 g / pound of Bodyweight or protein. let the fat land where it will, and eat to the edge of feeling full (that's actually the hard part).0

Thank you Heron and John.
It's just so weird. I did Weight Watchers for 3 years and eating all the time was theme - I always seemed to feel hungry. I was depending on way too many processed foods as well as drinking way too much Diet Coke or Coke Zero at the time. I'm starting to be a believer that aspartame actually makes you feel hungry.
It's just an odd feeling. I'm really not watching calories, carbs, etc. I put in my food in the diary but it's not exactly accurate (as in I don't verify the nutrition stats are correct). I just eat until I feel full. Before, I would eat until basically my stomach hurt (which is NOT good). Heck, on days like today where I had a great walk, there is no way I could eat all of the calories that I expended plus what I need to eat normally. I guess I could if I went to Pizza Hut or McDonald's but that isn't going to happen.
I went shopping today and realized that the fast majority of my shopping lately has been fruits and veggies. My cart used to be filled with all sorts of things in a box (only thing today in a box was some organic chicken stock as I've been challenged by a fellow YouTube to make zuppa toscana this weekend).
Ok, I think I've rambled enough. Closing the food diary in a few minutes and considering the day complete.0 -
Jen, I just went on a completely unintentional 25 hour fast. I was pretty hungry at about 10 this morning, but I don't normally eat until about 1 on Fridays, because I work half a day, so I just wait 'til I get home. I needed something to tide me over, so I drank a cup of coffee. I ended up getting home at about 2, then I had stuff going on, so I just didn't get a chance to eat. We had guests over and I made chicken shawarma and taboili. I really didn't get hungry until about 5:30 or 6, but it wasn't unbearable and I was able to wait until about 8:20.0

Just realized that I probably haven't been in REM sleep for a while. I don't remember when is the last time I dreamt.... Arturo pointed out that I look tired, plus I dozed off earlier. More like passed out lol I remembered measuring cloth and doing some calculation and I must have put my head down and I woke an hour later startled. Good sleep is very important! Sweet dreams everybody!
Tomorrow is paleo cracklin chicken day! One of our favs! Gonna make Brussels sprout as well.0 -
Happy Saturday everybody. 36 degrees out now and supposed to get to 45. Holy cow!!!! That's almost shorts weather!!!!! Going to be hood jaunting weather for sure.
Making my first attempt at zappa toscana (Italian sausage & potato soup) today. I was challenged by a fellow YouTuber so that's my afternoon plan.
Have a great Saturday!0 -
Happy Saturday Folks! Got over 7 hrs sleep last night since I didn't have to drive all the way home. Going to visit a Maris today over in Macon, stayed at Hampton inn last night so had scrambled eggs and sausage this morning for breakie. Stopped back at the office to pick up JTD so he can show off his new jacket he got for Christmas.
Jen have fun in your balmy weather and the soup sounds really good.
Will post more later after I get back home. TTFN0 -
Happy Saturday good day for a run n gun. Wish my gun was better sighted in. But here goes nothing!0

Heron. Cracklin Chicken. So much yum! One of my fav also! ( everyone else. Search Nom Nom paleo Cracklin chicken). And the bones are great for broth. Which reminds me I need to search for the bone broth recipe you posted. I loved the spices and need to make again. Foolishly didn't print out or make notes.
Jenn. Remember millions of dollars (hell probably billions) are spent on research & development of hyper palatable foods that basically make your body want more and/or blunt your natural satiety signals. That is the processed food world. Not to deliver nutrients but to cause you to eat more and more. Even diet soda. Whole 30 is helping your body reset. Which is a very good thing.
Meanwhile I was hungry hungry last couple of days. Not sure why. CarbNite is tonight. Sushi in menu
Speaking of CarbNite. So much for HRV dropping closer I get. Today's reading spiked up 20 points from last few days. Ah, the beauty of getting nearly 9 hours sleep and having finally gotten that damned business case presentation finished and to a point I'm really confident for next week's presentations if it. Stress and sleep, folks. They are a big deal.0 -
Oh and Jennifer. Enjoy the soup. It's a great recipe. Love it. Haven't made for a while.0

TJ and Kevin--Glad to see some fellow Mitch Rapp fans! I'm looking forward to seeing where Kyle Mills takes it. My favorite book is Term Limits I think just because it was the first one I read and actually think Scott Coleman is the coolest character in the books. Like Kevin said, the audio books are spot on. I actually listened to all of them before reading any since I commuted a lot in college for work and class. Flynn pretty much opened me up to that entire genre. I also really like Stephen Coonts, Brad Thor, and Brian Haig (READ MAN IN THE MIDDLE & CAPITOL GAME)! They all have similar style.
I'm currently I'm about 13 books deep in the Jack Reacher series. They are really good. I could probably talk about this all day. I'm feeling nostalgic now.0 -
Got back out there today! It was beautiful!
Did an easy 4 miles:
7:52
8:32
9:13
9:14
Ended up running a little longer so 4.12 miles 36:02 8:44/mile
I was working on going slow but that first mile I flew... I realize today that I over stride when I get tired. I worked on keeping mid foot strikes and my strides manageable. I misssssssssssed running.0 -
John, I don't remember congratulating on your primal certification so CONGRATULATIONS! + big hug
I wanna see his new jacket.
Cracklin chicken is proof that you don't need carby batter to fry chicken. So simple and so good!!
Jen, whoo hoo! Bust out them shorts.
I took melatonin last night and it knocked me out! Sleep better had a dream, but woke up with a headache0 -
10k done. Tired, but a good tired.0
-
Kim, I didn't make the soup today. Going to tomorrow instead.
Heron, this girl won't be in shorts for a while yet (at least in public).

Heron.. read Patriots and Grey 90's(early version of Patriots) years ago. A friend of mine has a couple out: Against the Grain and Pillars of the Fall by Ian Daniels. Lights out was a really good one too. Vampire Earth was another interesting series, and I still have not read all of them yet. I used to read 15 books a month or more when I was travelling all the time. Of course I would be remiss without mentioning anything by Larry Correia....
Not sleeping very well.. way too much stress again. Holding steady on the eating although my carbs have crept up into the 60's.. I love reading how you all are doing even if I am not posting much. Keep it up all of you.
Sorry you're not sleeping well Mark. The too much stress part can't be good. And John, talk about sleeping, or not sleeping… 0200?? Hope you guys get to catch up on your rest.
Congrats on that awesome certificate John! I know you studied a lot for that and we are all better off because you did!
Kim, I am still jealous of your standing desk. Oh - and I left my Fitbit at home.. AGAIN! This is why I loved the bracelet/Force. But it just didn't keep accurate steps for me. This new One is pretty accurate…. **IF** you wear it. GGGRRRRrrrr!
One weekend of freedom left and then school starts back up. This first class is 5 weeks long and I've heard it is not a heavy work load. THANK GOODNESS. I've heard that before and professors change so I have my fingers crossed.
I had a great weigh in on week 2 of the weight loss challenge. I've lost 7.8lbs in 2 weeks. I know a few lbs were water weight for sure. I gained 3 lbs in the few days before the challenge just from panic binging (salt, carbs, weight of too much food). So I was not surprised to see a decent loss when I started the challenge and Whole30 at the same time. You're actually not allowed to weigh yourself on Whole30. You are supposed to start over on Day 1 if you weigh yourself or break any rule. She actually compares you to a tantrum-throwing 6 year old if you want to pick and choose parts of the Whole30 to do. So then, I guess I'm not doing the Whole30. This 6 year old is going to only weigh herself once a week and eat like people who are doing Whole30. It's working for me.0
