question about weight loss

Hi sarah and sidesteel. Am attempting a gentle "cut" before progressing most likely onto my first bulk. I would guesstimate my body fat to be around 20 % at 53kg. To my enormous surprise have lost a kg in about 2 wks. Current wght is 53kg. I set my goal to 0.25/wk so the kg loss is an unexpected but pleasant surprise. My lifts have stayed steady. I do an upper/ lower split working each 2 x wk. Is it possible this weight loss is mostly water?

If this is your first week or two into the cut and you're seeing rapid loss I wouldn't react to it yet provided that you've not made a massive cut to your calorie intake. So for example if you were bulking at slightly above your estimated TDEE and you then chose to cut somewhere around 10 to 30% below TDEE and you're seeing rapid weight loss the first week I would assume it's mostly water and not react to it.

If you're still losing rapidly by week 3 and 4 I would consider a slight bump in calories.

When I go into a deficit I tend to drop 3 to 5 lbs in the first week. Many of my clients drop a significant amount when they first go into a deficit and I'm not putting people on too low of an intake.

Now there's also a possibility that you went too aggressive with the deficit, but if I make the assumption that you're being reasonable and you're not putting calories at an insanely low level then I'll go with my previous statements.

:D Thank you for your reply. I actually feel like im eating more on my cut then previously. I have not dieted for a long time and then only what wld now been known as a starvation diet. Iam thrilled to be (apparently) dropping fat painlessly and not nearly as slowly as expected
