I have mine set up using mfp setting and my activity level and at the moment I'm eating all my adjustments so im eating at tdee according to the fitbit. Or leave a few over if you want a deficit. I log spin sessions and weights with hrm using the stop watch function on the fitbit...I have a one. Its working fine for me that way.

I forgot to mention that I have been eating at a cut for a while. 2000 calories a day seems to be the right number for me to lose as it has worked recently. Do I enter in my own daily calorie in MFP or just use the setting to try to get close to 2000? I am really confused. I really want to use my fitbit but it just seems harder to figure out this stuff. Help....please!

You could check out Heybales spreadsheet as he now has a tweak tab for fitbit. I'm guessing most would say that if 2000 is working then set that as your mfp setting and disconnect your fitbit from mfp. Then adjustments won't mess anything up but you can still check fitbit for your activity etc

Basic premise in that spreadsheet, FitBit tab.

Get best stats on Simple Setup tab to get best BMR estimate.

Get FitBit to use that same BMR as foundation to math of calorie burns during non-moving time.

See what it says your TDEE is on avg, several methods depending on what your exercise is, and how you want to do it with eating back some or all exercise calories, to straight daily number.

Tweak the MFP settings to match your FitBit activity level found.
Take deficit and manually set your eating level goal.

Then you can sync adjustments or none depending on option selected.

Sounds bad, but basically start on Simple Setup tab, stats down to activity calculator.
Go to FitBit tab, enter your stats there asked for from the FitBit sample days.
Go to the MFP Tweak tab for 2 options, back to Simple Setup tab for other option.
Follow directions as to what to set.

I set my MFP manually to my TDEE - 20% number and also set my Fitbit to lose 1lb/week (500 cal deficit) since it's syncing to MFP. That has me really really close to having my Fitbit adjust my calories up and down for that day's activities. However I usually ignore those Fitbit fluctuations since I'm doing TDEE - 20% method, but this way it keeps the numbers the most accurate for me.

I haven't had mine a full week yet and I've been playing around with the settings. I like eating back my exercise calories because it encourages me to get up and move more. Over the 5 days I've been tracking with it, my actual calorie burn is within 40 calories of what Heybales spreadsheet said my TDEE is. So I feel confident that I estimated my exercise hours correctly on the spreadsheet.

I want to lose 1 pound a week so I'm doing a 20% cut. I could do more based on the amount of weight I still have to lose, but I like to eat so I'm happy with the 500 calorie cut.

I set up MFP as lightly active with a loss of one pound a week. It set my base calories at 1420. I set up FB to lose one pound a week as well. Heybales spreadsheet calculated my TDEE at 2141 and my average calorie burn according to FB over the last 5 days is 2186. I've been eating close to the number of calories that FB tells me I can. Over the last five days, my average calorie count was 1710. I did change from wanting to lose 1/2 pound a week to 1 pound a week midway into these 5 days so the numbers are somewhat skewed and I didn't quite reach the 500 calorie cut I decided I wanted. So my loss last week was about 1/2 pound. Exactly what I would expect..

I'm going to keep doing it this way for another 2 weeks and track my progress.

Great results and using the tool wisely.

Ive set mfp to maintain so that my calories remaining for the day is my deficit. i try and keep my deficit for the day between 250 to 500 cals. to lose 0.5-1lb a week. (im on my last 15lbs) so how much i eat each day is dependant on how much i exercise and how many extra calories fitbit gives me. it works for me.
