{ Welcome Summer } 108 Days of Yoga

I started a "Welcome Summer" 108 Days of Yoga Challenge today 1st June (Saturday).

My intention for this is to incorporate regular yoga practice into my lifestyle and existing exercise routine so I will be doing the following for the 108 days:

- Complete 10 minute practice after exercise every day
- Complete 30 minutes Astanga primary practice minimum 3 x per week
- Complete at least one 10 minute long meditation daily

The videos I am going to use use for my yoga practice for the 108 days:

10 minute practice (after exercise and when I don't have time for the full 30 minutes ... 10 minutes is better than nothing!):
Tara Stiles Gentle Yoga Routine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWA_dVdwyLw

30 Minute Ashtanga primary practice:
Yoga Today Primary Series - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP9IFX-Agt4

It is not a huge (or unrealistic) time commitment because I'm aiming for consistency and positive habit-forming routines but you don't have to use these videos to take part. Please include yoga studio practice or your own practice or if you are a more experienced yoga practitioner please feel free to select videos to suit your abilities.

Hope some of you will join me and make it your own and post your progress and encouragement in this thread.

Much Love
xoxo

PS - If you have other videos that you recommend please feel free to share them here.

  • Hi amitglinkedin,

Im not really focussed on losing weight with this challenge, its more about creating healthy habits, so im not really sure how much you could expect to lose after 108 days ... Sorry!

Oh I like this idea. I will join you but obviously a little late. Maybe I'll start on 7/1/13. I have David Swenson's Primary Series DVD on the way, should be here by Wednesday this week, super excited! I will let you know how it is but the reviews were good and I'm going to try and do it 2-3 days/week, the full series (so that's what, around 90 minutes long depending on if he does the vinyassas the whole time or just the second part, I've had it taught to me both ways). I really need to start the 10 min meditation, I was doing this every day for a while last year and then got lazy...this I will begin tomorrow morning.

I know I'm super late to this group but I am starting tomorrow since it is the summer solstice. I'm doing Ashtanga everyday. I'll be watching some movies from youtube, I have an app on my phone that has the full primary series, and David Swenson's short forms audio cd is in the mail from Amazon. My practice will vary from 15-90 minutes daily, while observing the rest days (Saturdays, moon days, and "ladies' holiday"). I also am the manager at a yoga studio so I'm hoping to be able to get in one physical Ashtanga class, one restorative class, and one meditation session at the studios a week as well.
  • No Problems at all, thanx for joining. Much Love xoxo

This sounds like a lot of fun! I'd like to join if it's not too late. I practice Baptiste and Bikram styles. I used to practice regularly but I've really let it slide between work and school. I can't practice every day because of my work hours (12 hour shifts), but doing yoga even 4x a week would be a huge improvement.

I had to check my first post on this group to see when I started yoga and it was March. I had been doing no less than 4 days a week but I started to step it up a notch last week.

I'm really new to yoga and every instructor is so different so all I know is I am doing Vinyasa flows. I think I'm better in a studio setting for now and would love to gain some more strength and try Ashtanga. For now I'll stick with what I can do :)

    Here is my weekly goals:

    Monday- all levels Vinyasa
    Tuesday Intermediate Vinyasa
    Weds-Intermediate Vinyasa
Thursday-- either hot intermediate Vinyasa or Yin Yoga or beginner Vinyasa
    Friday- al levels Vinyasa
    Saturday- suspension yoga
    Sunday- all level Vinyasa

If I miss a class then I am going to do a video from doyogawithme.com they have some good flows that I have done in the past. This schedule might be a little aggressive but we will see, so far so good.
  • @hockey247 I really love the doyogawithme.com videos too :-) I love doing yoga in a studio but when I do yoga on my own I tend to focus more on the integrity of the movements rather than how I compare to everyone else, I like to do a bit of both xoxo
  • @lithezebra I love these videos ... thank you so much for sharing xoxo
  • I just saw this, I have been doing yoga via Daily Yoga app on my phone. It has programs and I've been doing a Ab program. though I don't complete it every day. Since today is the 1st of August I will have to try to challenge myself to do yoga on a more regular basis as well. I think my challenge will be to go back to yoga class! The yoga classes at my gym are no joke and kick my butt. But, it will be good for me to have that challenge.
  • Hi Lovelies,

I hope you are all still going well with your 108 days of yoga ... I'm still kicking on :-)

Sorry to hijack this thread for just a few moments but I thought this might be of interest to you ...

2 yoga instructor friends of mine and I are embarking on a 21 Day Yoga Challenge. The goal of the challenge is to develop a habit of doing some kind of Yoga every day. I would love for you to join us to "Challenge yourself to 21 days of Yoga!" October 7th - October 27th 2013 or please also join to encourage and be part of helping others to develop a new healthy habit.
The challenge is based in Bangkok and we will have free weekly classes throughout the challenge.
Even if you are not in Bangkok we would still love for you to join as the challenge will be mostly online via the 21 Day Challenge Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/21dayyogachallenge) and Instagram (i'm Claire_schultz) #hashtag #21dayyogabkk. Throughout the challenge there will be posts each day; either a pose, inspiration, a breathing exercise, or a meditation exercise. We will be posting "yoga" pics to Instagram and the Facebook group for the 21 days and encourage all the members to do so too.

Would love to have you guys join the conversation and inspiration!

If you are interested in joining or for more information please check out the 21 Day Yoga Challenge FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/21dayyogachallenge
