Non-fast day tracking - newbie

Hi, I'm a newbie to 5:2, just starting today and not having my first fast day until Monday. I've been reading a lot and have some good ideas for fast days, I think. In the past, I've had my best success on paleo, and some of those ideas look like they'll suit well.

But I'm wondering about regular days. I know I'm not ready to just eat normally and not worry about counting calories. I'd like to get to that state, but my MO tends to be either eat very controlled and well, or all out pig out on poor quality food.

So I plan to set MFP to track good nutritional balance at 2000/day, and just let it yell at me on fast days, since they will look ridiculously low to the app. Does that seem like a good plan?

Sounds good. I never did paleo , but I do tend to go carb free on fast days. 2000 on non fast days is good if you're not too short or inactive. Otherwise go a bit nearer to your tdee. It's a bit of trial and error. If 2000 works, super. If not lower it a bit.

Yeah, sounds good. I keep my MFP set at "maintain" (ie: at TDEE) all the time, no matter what my goals actually are. Because my changes are due to fasting or overeating and there's no automatic way to handle that.

to avoid pigging out on fattening stuff, how about doing a big shop of healthy things? just an idea. I didn't find last week too bad and I was pretty scared...

Playing around with non fast day goals works well to determine what will work best for you.

    I've gone for 1800 for the 5 days - I'm 5ft5 and weight 12st10.
    - MFP really doesn't like it on the fast days!
