I have been trying c25k on my treadmill. I made it to week 5 then my knee started hurting. I have been trying to rebuild and just starts back this week. First i should say I have been walking no less than 4 mph and running 7-8 mph. The incline is set at 1. After c25k says my workout is complete i continue to walk with varying inclines until I have a full hour on the treadmill. Should I be running on an incline? How fast should I run/walk? Should I stop when the program is finished? If so what else should I do?

Thanks

You're probably running too fast, hence the knee pain.

For most people the incline doesn't make any real difference, but lots of people will tell you that it simulates real world running. It doesn't.

Do you have good shoes? How many miles have you put on them? My knees start hurting when my shoes are getting old. (I don't run on a treadmill, so no help there, sorry.)

You are running waaaaay too fast, and yes, stop when the program is finished. Your body needs time to recover. The program is structured the way it is for a reason.

Walking 4 mph is fine if you can keep up without getting winded, but your run intervals shouldn't be faster than 6 mph or so if you're just starting out.

Ok. I took the advice and cleared all progress to start over. I did week 1 day 1 yesterday afternoon on the treadmill walking 4 mph and jogging at 6.5. I am 5'10" so going any slower felt like I was in between a walk and and a jog. I stopped at the end of the program and made myself get off the treadmill. I really didn't feel like I had done much, but I was able to carry conversation throughout the workout and my knee is definitely better even though I haven't gotten new shoes yet. That will be on the list of things to do this weekend.
