Post-Surgery Transition into Exercise? Help Please!

So I had an appendectomy on Thanksgiving, and it's healing fine. However the muscles in my lower abdominal area are still very tender where the incision site is. As I should be mostly healed by now, I was wondering if the tenderness I'm experiencing has more to do with not having used those particular muscles in a while. Maybe I just need to slowly start working them again. Does anybody have any suggestions on what exercises or stretches might help in this case? Or should I give it more time to heal first? Thanks. ^_^
