Hi there. My name is Cindy and I'm new to your group. I've been on MFP for 4 years, lost a staggering 100 pounds in one year and been maintaining for the last 3 years. I'm thinking I'm beginning peri now but facing a radical hysterectomy if my genetic test for lynch syndrome comes back positive. I have a baseball size mass on my left ovary that needs to be removed and since I'm at high risk for Lynch my doctor wants to test me and take everything while she's in there for the ovary. I'm a bit freaked out by all this and being thrust into instant menopause. I'm worried about weight gain, or even losing that last 15 that won't budge now. I'm worried about all the other horrors I hear about with hysterectomies. Any helpful advice? I also welcome new friends too.

Much thanks

Hi you! I've followed your weight loss on the main boards. IFF you have to have the hysterectomy, things will definitely change. But if anyone can manage that change, it's you!

Sadly, regardless of the immediate toss into menopause, the change is coming. I seem to be staring peri now and the fight is on to maintain the weight loss. So far so good, but don't want the struggle to get worse.

I had lost my weight about 8 years before peri began. These days I'm just "aiming to maintain". I gave myself a mental maximum weight and keep it below there as best I can. It unfortunately means (for me) limiting my grains, and watching what I eat all the time. You can do this!

She's got a lot of good advice: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Momma_Grizz/view/menopausal-weight-gain-war-zone-576021

Eta: Vivianne Parnells book on eating in menopause helped me a ton with the stress/hotflash parts.
