New Girl seeking nutrition advice

I am not brand new to excersize and working out just haven't done it in a long time. However I am very so brand new to a proper diet and eating food for nutrition not taste bud satisfaction. Anyone who beat this beast what did you do?!?!? Any tips and tricks would be appreciated

I can't say that I've beat it at all but I think I've made some progress! My first goal was to eat fewer processed food and snacks. I cut out all pop at home (it's too good from the fountain to resist when I'm out!!). I just buy lots of fresh fruit, make smoothies, etc. I'm still horrible about vegetable but I've found that I really like a spinach salad and I try to sub veggies for fries when I go out. I've taken everything very slowly and just replaced one junk food at a time with something healthy. I found it much easier to try not to give up too much at once. Then gradually you don't care about the junk anymore. That said, I still have an intense love for sweets

One of the best pieces of advice I got was when going grocery shopping, stay on the the outside perimeter of the store. That way you are staying away from all of the processed stuff.

I figured out my calorie goal and am working on substituting things so I can stay under as well as making things from scratch as much as I can as opposed to buying pre-made stuff. Also, I don't look at any foods as "forbidden." When I did that, I just craved them more and when I finally gave in, I devoured way more than I normally would. So, now if I'm craving something for 3 days in a row, I'll make room in my diary for it. For example, if I want Oreos, I'll skip a regularly scheduled snack and set aside 140 calories so I can have a couple in the evening. Take baby steps toward making those positive changes so you don't get overwhelmed or feel like it's too much.

This is a great guide put together by one of MFP's veterans. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1

    Good luck!
