Benching with no spotter

I have recently started 5x5 and failed on my bench twice last workout. Unfortunately I do not have a spotter and the saftey racks is about an inch below my chest. If I raise it, it is an inch above my chest. Since my weight was still fairly light, I could roll the bar down to my waist and slide out. I do not want to do this with heavier weights. Any suggestions?

Don't put clips on and dump the weight if you fail. Be careful, and you might want to actually practice failing. After the first plate falls off the bar, the other side will fall quickly, keep a tight grip on the bar, no suicide grip.
