Hi Everyone!
New to the group!
I am 34 years old and diagnosed type 2 about a year ago. I have really struggled about getting serious about this, even tho I know what it will do to me. My Mom was diagnosed around my age and she didn't take care of herself and now she faces kidney failure, loss of eyesight and more. I have finally decided its time to get serious about this! I had Gestational Diabetes with my last pregnancy and was on insulin and really don't want to become insulin dependent. Right now I am on Metphorman and another pill that I cant remember the name of. LOL
I have been watching what I have been eating all year, but not as much as I should. I have/had a MAJOR sugar addiction and while trying to kick that it was replaced with carbs. Potatoes, rice, pasta. So now I can handle not having sugar, but now I love carbs. SO... I decided to kick the carbs. I am not eating any "obvious" carbs. Breads, pasta, potato, rice. I have been indulging in Meats, lots of veggies, healthy fats and a little bit of fruit. I have been only serious about this for a week and I am seeing some major changes already! I have also started to add exercise to my daily routine. Even if its only 15 minutes on the elliptical.
1) My blood sugar normally sits between 12-18 (terrible, I know!) and now its averaging about 9. It even was down to 8.5 for yesterdays fasting!!
2) I have way more energy and not nearly as irritable. I have a desk job, and usually once 2pm hits I am falling asleep at my desk. Its all I can do to finish work, pick up the kids, make dinner and get the kids to bed, before hitting the sac myself. Now I am making it through work, putting more effort into dinner, playing with the kids, doing a workout and still getting to bed at a reasonable time!
3) I just switched scales, but from the scale I was using before to the scale I use now there was a 6lb difference this week! I know some of that has to do with the different scales and next week will show a more accurate loss, but the number is going down!!
My Diabetic Doc told me a few times that she thinks I might be able to beat this and come off medication completely with dedication... I finally believe her! I just need to keep motivated, and stick to my plan. Not let outside influences sabotage my work!
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Shawna and welcome to the group. You have made a good start and already know the effect of T2 complications. You will find lots of useful information and support from the group members. The link to the information sources listed in the announcement section is a good place to start. Diabetes is a very individual condition and what works for one may not work for the next person. Regular testing is an essential discipline otherwise we using trial and error. The most important weapon in your armoury is disciplne and determination and self education. Only you can provide the stickability. I wish you well in your journey to a healthy and active life.0

Hi. I was diagnosed about 18 months ago and have a very similar story to yours! I'm very much a sugar/carb addict and realise this is something that needs to be addressed asap. I'm going to use MFP again to monitor my carbs etc. Good luck!0
