WHY?

I thought it would be interesting to see why people have signed up for a Tough Mudder (or done one). I have noticed that most people seem to think I'm crazy to do one (and maybe I am).

I signed up a few weeks ago as I wanted something to aim for. I knew that this summer would be the first that I'm not at uni and would have some free time (albeit 4 kids) so training for something seemed a good idea.

I'd also let the whole exercise thing drop (except 3 or 4 miles walking a day) - mainly due to severe allergies that were affecting my asthma among other things. I'd finally got the results from the allergy specialists and knew what was causing the problem. They also wanted to give me oral meds for asthma which after reading the side effects for did not want to take.

So I'd seen some adverts in a magazine for Tough Mudder and had a look at some videos - the whole thing gave me a buzz and I wanted to do it. The kids watched a couple and also thought it would be 'fun' although my 8 year old is convinced I'm also going to die. So I signed up ( death waiver and all).

So five weeks ago I gave up the cigs ( cant train and smoke)- back to the gym 3 times a week and started zombie 5 k training. My asthma is great - only needed my inhaler a couple of times - mainly running when its very warm and the weight is also dropping off ( and not touched the meds). I've also signed up for 4 other races including a zombie 10 k and a night time Halloween run.

My incentive for the next 19 weeks are too get much fitter ( would like to drop around 10 pound so I'm in the overweight BMI)

Sounds like you're doing a great job health and training wise!

I really wanted a new challenge to keep me motivated with training, done all sorts of things like 10ks, 54 mile Highland walk, 3 day challenges, half-marathons etc - I get bored easily!

My friend did a TM last year and raved about it so when another friend said she was putting together a team then I had to sign up! I can't wait for it, it sounds brilliant and just hope the team pulls together on the day.

I love both of your guys' reason for wanting to do a TM :).

For me, it sounds like a ton of fun, and it's not something everyone can do so naturally I want to try it! I'm a very competitive person by nature. I ran track in high school and was a cheerleader. After I graduated I continued to run, up to 3 miles a day and loved it.

Once my thyroid issue set in I started losing energy and motivation and the weight packed on, and fell of in intervals that left my head spinning! I'm now stable and getting health after dealing with this for 10 years or so and it's an ultimate fitness goal to complete a TM for this year.
