what is the best eating schedule ? I find if I eat my protein at my meal that is all I can eat before I am full. I have not been able to eat a single vegetable or fruit since jan 12 (surgery day) I have a sleeve.
But I discovered a couple days ago I can get most of my protien from shakes at my snack times...
Is that the route I should go? Protien shakes for snack then maybe some veggies for meals? Or mix it up? I can only eat between 1/4-1/2 cup of food. Will more variety come later? Also my surgen says eventually I will eat about 1 cup food at a time ... When does that come ? I don't want to stretch my tummy out. I stop when I am full . Infact I am so new sometimes I eat to fast and get overly full. I am working on that .my brain still tells me to eat and my stomach says whoa .
Thanks

I was the same as you when I asked the same question. The answer was if I could get enough protein from food sources that would be better. I asked about vegetables and fruits, that answer was if I had my protein needs done go ahead and have them.
At over 6 months out the story is the same with calories at 1000.

My surgeon wants his patients' goal to be able to get most if not all protein from actual food. I am about 16 months out, and I can eat 3-4 ounces of meat/protein and maybe 1/2 cup of veggies at a meal. You will eventually be able to work in more different foods but protein will always have to be the priority.0

My surgeon wanted protein first, produce second, and advised me not to worry too much about the vegetables if I couldn't get them all in. Many of my early meals were all protein, an egg for breakfast, cottage cheese for lunch, etc. I'm 3 1/2 months out from my RNYGB surgery and now able to get enough of both (plus two protein shakes and vitamins). The biggest benefit I saw from being able to eat more vegetables was less constipation! Blood work has been fine throughout. And you will be able to eat more with time, no need to hurry.

My direction was "protein first" but supplements are not evil either. I'm supposed to get 72g which would make mealtime monotnous without supplements. I start most days with 1 egg with a slice of cheese on it and chase that with a scoop of whey in my coffee an hour later when I get to the office so I start each day with 30g by 9am. I typically do a protein "bar\cookie" (15-23) of some ilk as an afternoon snack and the rest comes from meals. I also use protein-enhanced bread and pasta products when I choose those foods, (think P28 bread and any of the high protein pastas) so that helps a lot. If I'm choosing carbs they don't come at the expense of protein. On a good day, I'll hit 85-95g. I gotta admit, I hardly ever do fruit and probably not as many veggies as I should.0

What is this protein enhanced pasta you speak of? Also does the scoop of protein powder make coffee taste bad?0 -
I really have to concentrate to get my veggies and fruit is an afterthought unless I remember to grab an apple or bananna when I leave the house. The goal was, and is, to get the protein from a food source though I do have protein bars every day. Typically I am well over 120g protein per day.

I was advised protein first, veggies 2nd. The NUT & dr prefer that most of my protein come from food sources and ideally only 1 protein supplement/drink per day. That isn't always realistic, I have found because I can't usually eat enough to really get enough protein in from my food and only 1 drink.0

I find myself craving fruits and veggies. I have a juicer and am trying to incorporate a 8 oz glass of juiced veg into my diet for the nutrition. Another thing I'll do is to blend in some fruit into my morning protein shake to make a smoothie.0

I rebelled and ate from my whole plate from the very beginning, little bites, around and around. But I also very swiftly was able to hit my calorie targets so I figure it's all a big win. I get my protein in every day too.0

Just like everyone else, protein first. Eventually you will be able to add veggies and fruit. I still don't eat much in the way of what I grew up calling "starches" (bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, etc.). By the time I get the protein in and a little veggie, there's just no room. My nutritionist said to get my protein from food if at all possible, but I do sometimes add a scoop of protein powder to my coffee instead of cream or have a protein bar or shake for an evening snack if I need more protein or calories for the day.0
