Interested in doing this diet, as I'am having problems with insulin resistance and the symptoms bother me daily.
I also have so much stomach fat you can grab with two hands but have leaned out everywhere else on my body.
I'am a apple shape with hypothyroid (so I don't want to go TOO low, because supposly too low carb can hurt my thyroid)
and diabetes runs in my family.
I'am at my goal weight but my body fat percentage is still high. It's hard because I don't want to keep loosing weight
but I still have fat! I don't know where to begin with calories and macros for this kind of diet....

I don't know much about eating for thyroid issues, but I have experience with diabetes. I've done carbs in "moderation" (per my nutritionist) for years and did ok, but didn't really get anywhere. I sort of tried Atkins, Southbeach, other low/er carb diets but would get scared of the fat when my nutritionist would freak out about it. I've been doing LC/HF for about 3 weeks straight and have already noticed changes I haven't seen since before diabetes. Some changes, like sleep, are better than they have ever been. What I did was actually set my calories pretty high and I've still been going over, some days by a lot. I've been eating least 75% fat and keeping my carbs below 100 grams (not sure of the % off hand -sorry). Protein I keep somewhere in between the two, as I've read that too much protein can have the same effect over time as too many carbs. As far as calories, I'm tracking for the sake of tracking only. I'm only paying attention to the numbers as a side thing. Mostly I'm paying attention to how hungry I am and how I feel. I've been losing a little and once that levels off I'll have found my starting calories. Then I will worry about deficit.

If you are at your goal weight then reducing calories is not the answer. Next step to reducing body fat percentage would be to increase your lean muscle mass. I suggest you need a physical trainer and a good gym.

My endocrinologist never mentioned anything to me about not going too low for my hypothyroid. In fact, he's the one that suggested this WOE to me. I'll have to check into that, because I definitely don't want to make things worse!

As for where to begin, the launchpad here has lots of info!!

Google "Keto calculator", it will give you some ideas on where to be depending on your own personal data.

Regardless of your diet, you don't need your protein that high.

That said, you might want to look into the research around matters. There appears to be at least as much research stating that very low carb isn't detrimental to thyroid function as there is stating that it does.

Yeah, unless I start having worse symptoms with my thyroid, which has acted 1000 times better on this WOE than off it, I'm going to keep on keeping on, especially considering that I'm being monitored by my endocrinologist who was the one who put me on this path in the first place! :)

I don't want to do Keto, I just want to do lower carbs...

A lot of the information between Keto and LCHF is sharing resources. Originally my doctor suggested me start at 25% carbs, 35-55% fat, and the balance in protein, so 20-40% protein - but only if I was getting active enough to use the protein. Otherwise, it just converts to sugar in your body. I think that @Dragonwolf was saying that you should bump up your fats rather than your protein as much. There are many variations to low carb.

I just know that for me, if I bump up much above 10% carbs, which for me is about 50 grams (which was my personal goal for now), I start getting carb cravings again. I'm not specifically looking for keto or not, I was just going low enough to manage my cravings. So many different ways to do it! Good luck.

I am doing better on my LCHF and as far as I can tell there has been no effect to my thyroid condition. To be fair I did change thyroid meds in December. I am feeling so much better. BUT is it because of the LCHF or the new Thyroid? Both happened with a week of each other. My skin is no longer like a dried up desert with cracks. It is soft and smooth. My energy level is through the roof. I just flat out feel better than I have in years.

I'm on 150mcg synthroid daily. I have autoimmune issues and my thyroid is basically dying a slow death. Don't cry. It was kind of a slacker to begin with.

Diet specific - I don't notice a down tick unless I'm under 1200 cals for an extended period. The body likes to down regulate if you constantly run on low fuel.
