4th Day on LCHF and Nervous!

Hi everyone. I joined MFP about a month ago in hopes of losing 50 pounds. I found I had to drop my carbs to around 100 grams/per day or less in order to not be hungry. As an unexpected result, I've also found that I feel better mentally the fewer carbs I eat. Depression that has plagued me for over a decade is almost non-existent now. So, I took an interest in the ketogenic diet and started reading up on it. Since Friday I've been at 30 grams of carbs or less (about 10%). Today I set carbs to 5% for the first day in hopes of entering ketosis soon.
For some reason I'm really nervous about the transition. When will it happen?! What will it feel like?! Will I be miserable?! So many unanswered questions cause me anxiety.
I've been drinking about 96 oz of water because I've heard that can help. Any other advice would be appreciated. And I could use more low carb friends, so feel free to add me. I have an open diary and log daily. I also swear like a sailor (just a warning in case you're sensitive about that).
TIA,
Kelly

Welcome, there are a lot of info on the subject. Here is a good site to explain about "Keto Flu", the time when your body is adjusting to a new ways of eating.

It took me about a week to get over the Flu, i had headaches and felt very lightheaded, i would drink bone broth to get my sodium in (and you will need it!).
Don't be afraid, it might not be for everyone, but it does help a lot of people to improve their health and embrace new lifestyle. Bring on the bacon!
Best of luck!

Have some broth on hand if you get headache or flu symptoms, and drink a cup, you'll feel better. If you're drinking enough water and getting enough potassium and magnesium you won't even need to do that. You may get insomnia, and taking magnesium before bed can help. You can enter ketosis in a matter of hours, some people use test strips, but they're not really accurate and don't tell you much you can't tell on your own. Your breath and urine will smell different, and you'll feel less hungry.
Don't stress about it, and don't worry too much about numbers, it takes a few weeks to get used to it, but once you do, your body will tell you when you're doing it right.0 -
I'm not 100% certain that I'm in ketosis, though a recent ratio calculator has said yes, definitely, but when I got the flu symptoms, I alternated between broth and jumping my fats up, and I didn't suffer much at all. Good luck.0
