Best way to breaking a fast

I was sitting at my table eating the first meal after my FD - bran flakes, milk and banana with peanut butter. I wondered, was this the best way to power myself up after a fast day?
I wondered what you all eat after a fast day and if, after that first meal, you feel energized?

Porridge but the one with the extra bran in. and yes I do feel energised even now before the porridge as the sky is cloudless. Yesterday was wet and we had a fallow day.0

croissant and skinny latte today. and now I feel full!0

Food - any food I like!
Tends to be a bigger than average breakfast because I will be hungry.
If you are going off to do a big exercise session then plenty of carbs would be a good idea but really your non fast days are just normal days. Food doesn't really make me feel energized (or not), exercise does.0 -

I just love your line of thinking!
During the week my breakfast is often a mix of oats, chia seeds, fruit or berries and a high protein yogurt or quark type milk product. I soak the oats and seeds overnight, and mix with the rest in the morning.
Or
HP -LC bread with ricotta cheese and honey or jam
On the weekends. ..If im feeling elaborate. ..egg - banana pancakes with fruit, smoked salmon or eggs cooked in some fashion. Or a special swiss braided bread...HC HF,white flour. ..but soo yummy0 -
I'll usually eat weetbix and Vegemite on toast. It's a pretty standard brekky for us. Terribly boring I know0

Thanks all for your replies. There has been a lot of talk about carbs, no carbs, and LCHF food plans that it has gotten me thinking about what I eat and how it effects me. What I eat after a fast day is really important because my body is a bit depleted. Love hearing what works for you all. Helps me to relax a bit seeing all of the variety.
@karen_fitzgibbon - We love Weetabix. My son always looks on the side of the box for the suggestions how how to eat it for the day of the week we are on. I will be thinking of you over there in Queensland next time we have Weetabix.0 -
Ooh you should get him to help make a weetbix slice!!

Awesome for birthday partys and treats. Not altogether healthy though0 -
I'm not normally too hungry the morning after a fast. Yesterday I only had 435 calories and it was almost 9am before I ate anything today (I get up at 6am since I have to be at work by 7:30). Wasn't "starving" so only ate a Vitalicious muffin top at 100 calories.0

I think that you should eat whatever suits your goal best, sweetie. If that is to share brekkie with your family, then that is one goal. If trying to keep fuller for longer, then maybe protein and fats are more efficient. Bacon, eggs and spinach...hello !
There's no need to make it either or. Why don't you try and experiment for 2 weeks with something else or mix it up?
Here is an interesting blogpost by Jason Fung on breakfast.
I could bomb you down with other sources, but I don't see the point in that
I didn't know the cereal was such a dessert. Here it's not usual yet to give kids cereal with chocolate for brekkie.
Edit: Ooops, I just noticed that I interpreted your question as a post about breakfast. Sorry for the confusion. Deleted some info, not necessary in this thread.0 -

Lol no. I don't give my kids chocolate for breakfast. I do however use breakfast foods in recipes that involve chocolate. The weetbix slice recipe is for a treat lol definitely not breakfast. I'm sorry for not specifying that. I have to say though, I'm sorry but you did give me a good giggle

I usually crave protein after, so if I'm being good I make a homemade breakfast sandwich. Lately it's been all the treats I tucked away from fast day0

Great info on food as usual. Loved the line from the article "People confess to skipping breakfast like they’ve committed a great nutritional crime." I am guilty of that! Having said, that I am going to back to eating some breakfast on my fast days. I have been feeling so tired and moody everyday since I started eating just one meal a day on fast days. Could be due to something else but I was feeling so good before Christmas when I was breaking up my calories on FDs that I thought maybe it is just too much for my body to just consume one 500 cal meal in a 36 hour period. As you say, it is good to experiment. I plan to eat protein in the morning and see if that helps my energy.
We too here have a serious morning sugar problem! It is very hard to find decent cereals that have 5 or less g of sugar! People are starting to rebel against HFCS but so far the total level of sugar has not come down. A cereal can contain sugar, brown sugar, honey and HFCS. Ridiculous! I keep ours down to 5g or less and no donuts or pastries. And the schools don't help. They know the kids love sugar so every treat is a candy of some sort. Don't get me started on that one! No surprise to me that the U.S. has an obesity problem.
I am hoping at some point, Americans will start to look at and reduce sugar like they have fats. We'll see.

@jknight001 - you can make your own 'cereal'. I just mix rolled oats, linseeds, chia seeds, some nuts, some kind of fruit and either cook it up with milk or soak it overnight and mix it with yogurt in the morning. The nuts and pieces of apple give you the crunch. Some cinnamon and a dabble of maple syrup....very yummy.0

I have done something like that but I haven't added apple. Think that would be good!0 -
Watch the documentary "Fed Up"...you'll see how lobbyists were able to get the FDA to "accept" pizza and french fries as vegetables. Now you'll never get them off of school lunch menus without an act from congress.0
