    Interesting. I don't think it's any secret that our current dietary guidelines are based on politics. It is very sad, as pointed out in that article (or maybe another one I read linked off it), that the USDA guidelines direct what our kids eat if they eat school lunches and how they are taught health and nutrition.

    There's still time for all the lobbyists to force changes before the final version is released, but so far it's a mixed bag. They are finally admitting that they've been wrong about cholesterol for years, and they're promoting more lean meat. However, they're still calling red meat the devil. That's a problem, since there is such a thing as lean, red meat, so they'll have to resolve it, but it's going to come down to who spends the most money convincing them rather than anything health based.

    They're also down on added sugar and insisting it be labeled as such, so that's a plus, provided it stays in.
