I was hoping before we would all start tracking, we would be given some tips on how to track our calories. It sure is easy to scan the box of anything I am eating but what if that is not the case. Does anyone have a good reference on how to track calories? Thanks.

  • From the mobile app you can search for foods and many choices are available. For example, if you type in "grilled chicken sandwich" there are generic choices, fast food, Sodexo, etc. I can usually find something that seems like a good fit for what I have eaten and then the nutrition information is recorded.

I follow Terri's approach as well as enter ingredients on my own to create my own foods. This is especially helpful if I make a recipe that I plan to eat often (ex: scrambled egg muffins). I can then easily log my food intake by clicking on "My Recipes". There is also an "import food from internet" feature, but I've not tried that yet. Curious to whether or not it really pulls the nutritional information from a restaurant's website, for example?

One more thought...if we all make our food diary public to our MFP friends, then perhaps we can use the foods/nutritional information from each other as a guide?!? I also find it helpful to hold myself more accountable if I know others can see what I've eaten!!! Healthy peer pressure!
