Fats are Friends, AND Food

Hello everyone!
I'm new to the forums but I've been tracking on and off with MFP for years. I originally started limiting my carbs in 2010 and went from 155lb to 132lb, but ice cream & birthday cake season struck and I couldn't keep up with it.
I've tried that original plan over and over and haven't seen a repeat of the success I had, gaining weight in between so that my trend was ever upward. Each time I was limiting my carbs to 120g a day (with a specific limit of 15g for sugar). I would have said my eating habit was "IIFYM" except that I didn't know about macros so I was overdoing it on protein in most cases, forgetting the early advice I'd gotten to look for fats first. I often went off because my husband would also try and we enabled each other to slip off at any emotional stress.
Now I'm trying it again, on my own, with a high weight of 166.2lb a week ago ("sucked in belly button" measurement of 33.5 inches). That was the heaviest I've ever weighed in at. I'm at 160.8lb this morning (still need to take another belly measurement).
I'm trying to keep my macros at 59/33/8 for now (calculated with the keto-calculator so many of you recommended - thank you), using 1275 as my calorie goal to get MFP to help me track the carbs correctly, though I'm not really paying any mind to calories. I have trouble keeping my protein down to "moderate" levels, and I'm not sure what to do in that regard. When I go to eat I realize I've got more carbs than I really want. On reviewing some of the group's posts this morning I'm thinking of dropping some of the veggies I've kept in "because vegetables." I want to achieve Ketosis, because I really think that having that in place will help me resist temptations simply because I won't want to get knocked back into glycolysis.
My goal is to achieve Ketosis (for that reason mentioned above) before my husband's birthday and mine, in April. Fat bombs, not cake!
I'm already feeling the blessed decrease of sugar cravings. I credit a lot of that to the strawberry fat bomb recipe I found through this group - way better than any ice cream I've ever had! There are two boxes of donuts in the break room that someone brought in, and today I pick up three boxes of girl scout cookies I ordered to support a friend's daughter, and I don't even care. Okay.. mentally I care a little... but my mouth isn't a faucet like it'd normally be. Right now I drool at the mention of bacon and steak.
I've been doing strength training with weights and body weight, every other day, trying to get some muscle definition in my 'computer user' arms. I have a YogaGlo membership but that's been largely neglected because of our home layout and lack of space (and my tendency to oversleep).
My broader goal is to get to lean + crucial fat, about 120 lbs (I'm 5'3"), but I'll be happy if I get back to near 130. I've got a lot of clothes in the closet I bought after my weight loss in 2010!
Anyway, feel free to check out my diary (it's open, I just changed it), and friend me, and let me know if you have any tips (especially regarding that sneaky protein).
Thanks guys. You've all been a huge help already!

Welcome and good luck! I don't really do percentages, but are you saying 8% carbs? You should get into ketosis quickly with that. Most people are able to achieve ketosis by eating <50 g total carbs/day. It only takes a few days usually, as soon as your glycogen stores are used up. You will have a lot of water loss, so make sure you drink plenty of water and eat enough sodium (drinking broth is great). It may take 4-6 weeks of being in ketosis to become keto-adapted, so that should be achievable for you by April.0

Hey, you and I are about the same! welcome! I'm an inch shorter and my highest weight was 165. I'm sending you an add, feel free to look at my diary, I've been having issues with protein as well. I'm finding little ways to change my diet though. Perhaps we can learn from eachother.0

That's my goal, anyway! I've slid between 6 and 14% carbs since I started last week, but my total carbs have usually landed between 40 and 50 grams.
@sweetteadrinker2 I added you back! I definitely need a buddy to learn from and compare notes with!
I grabbed some ideas from the I Breathe... I'm Hungry... blog (found it through the reddit group), and I'm looking forward to making a stash of food that I can just reheat!0 -
Welcome! You will lose all the sweets cravings once you stop eating them, being in ketosis will help! I'm completely uninterested in any cakes or cookies , my hubby eats them in front of me and I don't care! I'm obsessed with my macros and find it very motivational, almost like a game of who wins, me or carbs lol0

@itcphotog I feel the same way! I love the number tracking. It overwhelmed my husband and I would be happy to do it for both of us!0
