Just venting.....Advice needed

Hello everyone! I love all of your success stories and hopefully one day I will have my own. Right now I need to vent. My husband is my best friend, my everything and Saturday he was admitted into the hospital because he was having chest tightness. They ran all kinds of tests on him. They were saying it was a heart attack but everything came back almost normal yesterday and it wasn't a heart attack but he has angina. I've been researching trying to see what can I do to help my husband. They didn't prescribe him any special diet so I'm just lost right now. He has high BP and has had it since he was 21. I've been a wreck all weekend. Today I'm releasing it and giving it to the Lord. If any of you have ever dealt with angina before any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have angina, but I do have high blood pressure and a few other factors. Both my endocrinologist and my regular doctor recommended LCHF and/or Keto for heart and whole body health. There is a lot of medical evidence showing improved numbers all the way around by cutting carbs, and the best way, in my personal experience, to cut carbs without the crazy cravings is to fill in the gaps with fat. I'm sure some of the other amazing people here can give you more info, but if the two of you do this together, you find modifications to all his favorite foods, this can mean a whole new lease on life for you both. Just the mental clarify, improved energy, and better sleep altogether will help and make it worth it! Best of luck to you both.0

KnitOrMiss thank you! We go to the cardiologist in two weeks and I'm going to inquire about his diet. If we both can do LCHF that would be great but if not I'm still going to do it but I have to find something that works for him.0

Even just a slight move to reducing your carb intake and sugar, monitoring what you eat (through journaling on MFP), and eliminating highly processed foods will help with overall health. Reading up on articles/books together so that you're on the same page of understanding what to eat and why will also help. good luck during this wake up call...0

Remember, too, that not all cardiologists are back on board with the new data. I would honestly do research about all the things showing how this way of eating is great for lowering risk, go to the appointment armed with the information. If you have an older doctor or one who is old school, you might have a fight on your hands. Plus, if you start this now, once he is home, you can have results to show the doctor when you go in. Two weeks can make a huge impact. I don't have any links right at hand to show the correlation medically, but I know it will help your BP go down, will help keep plaque from forming in the arteries, and will improve a number or correlating factors...0 -
If you have a tough cardiologist you may want to say low carb, and leave off the high fat part at first.0

Yes, I have to leave off the high fat part...my cardiologist once scolded me for using the whole pat of butter on my nasty hospital food broccoli! He's not the most receptive guy...0

Welcome ybell300,
When you get an hour & half of free time, go to YouTube and watch the video called, "Fat Head".
I hope this helps,

Thank you all for all your information. I will research and go in armed with information but I'm concerned about his cholesterol too. I've read that it levels out in about 6 months but he has high cholesterol and high BP now. I'm afraid if he starts on LCHF his numbers will go up by the time we get to the doctor.
Ditto Dan I will definetly watch the video. Thank you.
IamUndrCnstru I will keep ask him about the LC part. I may incorporate some LC anyway. I don't think it can hurt too much.0 -
I think you've made a wonderful and wise decision ybell. I'm the same with my husband - we are best friends and spend every possible moment together so I completely understand how frightened you must be.
My LCHF hero is Prof Tim Noakes from South Africa. As the others have said, you could possibly meet some resistance in your husband's specialist but Tim Noakes is co-founder of the South African Sports Institute, as well as a university professor with tomes of quality research papers to back up what he says.
For an in-depth talk (43 minutes) that I've watched several times https://youtube.com/watch?v=fL5-9ZxamXc&list=PLuMDPCITxYNgwGvoAAJUuuVzWL7XsauT_
That will start with Prof Noakes but also has 12 other wonderful speakers in a play list on the topic of LCHF. This includes 3 professors and 6 doctors, which I hope is enough convincing for anyone
For short and sweet audio recordings from Tim go here talkfeed.co.za/lchfpodcast/ Scroll down and choose your topic/s. There are 7? pages to scroll through.
Love and understanding to you ybell.0 -
Awwweee thank you GrannyMayOz you are so sweet! Thank you for the links. I'm preparing for resistance. I understand everyone will not support this lifestyle. I'm just trying to do everything I can to help my husband.0

I don't have anything to add, ybell, except prayers for you and your husband.0

I haven't watched the video that @Dragonwolf posted above, but I can tell you that as someone with previously high cholesterol that this way of eating HELPS raise my good cholesterol and drops my bad stuff, improving numbers all the way around. I dropped my overall cholesterol 30 points in 3 months by eating two eggs a day, every day, and this was before I even went LCHF!
Eating cholesterol has very little effect on blood cholesterol. If you don't eat enough for your body to process it, your body will make cholesterol, and that's where things get wonky... I look forward to checking out the video above!0 -
Thank You Sugarbeat.
Dragonwolf I will view that video tonight. You all are incredible!0
