There is no defined speed that you should be at. It's very individual.
If you cannot hold a conversation at 4.5mph, slow down to 3.5 or 4.0. As long as you are running, the speed doesn't matter. That will come in time.
For now, you need to build up your stamina by running slowly for longer periods of time. As the weeks progress and you are told to run longer, you will (and possibly should) slow down. You may find that your running is slowing down over the next few weeks.....but it'll speed up later.

This is the fundamental I did not get the first time and I injured myself, the second time I just let myself go slower and slower so I could complete the programme. It was my pride that got in the way of my capability, don't make the same mistake. You will get faster as you go for longer. My current fastest 5k came as part of a 12k training run. Enjoy the challenge and bathe in your success and in doing things you never thought were possible.

These are good words. Sometimes when I'm struggling I get discouraged and I forget that there was a time that I never thought that I could/would be able to run 5K. Yet here I am. There's really no reason to be so discouraged. The struggles will always be there as we strive forward. Keep enjoying the runs. That's the ticket.
Thanks, Robbie, for the reminder.0
