Marla, sorry to hear you got so sick. Hope you feel better soon!
Well it's been pouring rain off and on, and I'm just sorta stuck inside with the kids doing chores together. Might try for a play date tomorrow, if we can find a rainy day solution.
Hope everyone else is feeling okay and getting some activity.0 -
Marla sorry to hear you're sick. Having to drive like that sounds extra awful. Hope the meds & rest are helping.
Val glad you & your husband were able to talk it out. One of my friends had a "pet peeve" post going on Facebook earlier this week and one of her friends said it makes her crazy when someone says their husband is "babysitting" their kids -- as a parent the father isn't "babysitting," he's just taking on his equal responsibility to care for their children. I've got one friend where she & her husband have worked out a schedule so they can both get in their workouts while the other stays home with the kids. Sometimes they have to get creative, but if she has to miss her usual gym time because something comes up for him, he makes sure she gets it in some other time.
Yesterday was a good day but a long one. I got home at 8:00 pm tired, hungry, and without enough calories left to get in an adequate dinner. That never ends well for me. Once I went over on calories things spiraled and I ended up eating about 1300 calories over budget. My Fridays are always long so I have got to come up with a better eating strategy. I'm out the door early and it's typically late before I get home, and I have two workouts during those hours (trainer before work & swim after work), so I just need better calorie management.
Run is 10 miles today. Every week Jason is increasing the amount of the plan that I actually run to give my foot/body a chance to catch up to where I need to be for my training schedule. Last week was a taper week so I did 7 miles all on the TM (5 run & 2 walk). Two weeks ago was 9 miles and I did 3 of them on the elliptical. This week only the first mile is on the elliptical, then four segments of running 1.5 miles & walking .5 miles, then a final segment of running .5 & walking .5 so I'll run a total of 6.5 miles. I should be at the gym already but instead I'm on the couch typing with a cat sprawled across my wrists fast asleep. It's finally going to get close to the freezing mark so I was tempted to get my run in outside, but Jason wasn't crazy about me going that far outside right now, and I'm concerned about that long of walk breaks - sweating while I run then getting cold during a half mile walk, 5 times, sounds like a horrible idea. I know how to layer to run at 30 degrees, I don't know how to layer to run/walk at 30 degrees. At 50 degrees it would be fine because my sweat wouldn't be freezing.0 -
Debating whether to go to my Pilafes class. So far, I've managed to keep my cold to a slight cough, drippy nose, and sore muscles. But no fever and I'm still able to be up and about. I don't want to overdo it...but I'm starting to get a little antsy. Hmmmm....Probably will play it safe and rest today and tomorrow. I'll start fresh on Monday.
Marla - sorry your sick! Glad you got some meds and I hope your recovery is quick!
Laura - I've gotten very spoiled here in Phoenix! To me, hitting freezing sounds just awful to run in. The temps are supposed to be low 80s this weekend.I also had a bad day yesterday eating-wise. I am so lacking energy and didn't have a chance to grocery shopping. So it all led to some very poor food choices. But today is a new day!
Sherry - you may not have gotten a run in...but some down time to yourself sounds like a success to me!
Today I need to get my grocery shopping done. I also plan to put the house back in order. Another reason why I think I'll be skipping Pilates...to have enough energy to run errands.
Have a great weekend!0 -
Glad you are better Val...don't overdo! I still have it but not bad so resting inbetween my work hours. Beautiful sun and 62 degrees out today, that is very warm here in mountains for this time of year. That is early May temps.
Got woke up today with cell call at 6am ugh...glad I didn't answer, was IRS scam trying to scare me with threats if I didn't call back. I googled number and saw they were scamming others. I see how some could get sucked in, sounded very authentic and scary...I posted a complaint with number, although it said San Rafael CA I heard they are actually in India doing it making it hard for gov to catch them.0 -
So happy! I ran 65 minutes on the treadmill at the gym this morning. It was a very slow run, but it was still a nice, long run, and the longest I've been able to do in a very long time.0

I can't stand that either! It implies that child care is the woman's responsibility, and it also insults the father, like his role is not really all that important except to "help out" here and there. My boyfriend has four kids, and he has never been one of those "I don't do diapers" kinds of dads. He cooks, cleans, plays with the kids, everything a parent should do. We see it a partnership, not something where one does everything and the other just helps out here and there.

Marla's 62 degrees for the win! That sounds ideal. I've been hearing a lot about that IRS scam. Pretty sure the real IRS isn't going to call you at 6am on a Saturday, so the scammers could do some research.
Val resting sounds like the best option - then come back at it 100%. We blend in some yoga with our Pilates (it's mat Pilates because it's at our office) and the last time I tried do it it with a drippy nose regretting it every single time I was hanging upside down (like in downward facing dog) or was in tabletop.
Got in my 10 miles - 1 elliptical, 6.5 running on the TM & 2.5 walking on the TM. I'm going to ask Jason if we can shorten the walk intervals. I don't need a half mile walk for cardio purposes (my HR is the same at 1/4 mile as it is at 1/2 mile) and the walking is just creating more impact on my foot, since I'm on my feet longer & taking more steps to cover that distance. I iced my feet when I got home and will use my roller on them again before bed. (The left one is the problem foot but I'm treating both because I don't want to start having issues with my right foot.)
Nice run Rising!0 -
Yknow Laura, toward the end of a long run when my legs are starting to feel it, I find walk breaks really help my legs to freshen up, surprisingly much! But of course, that's replacing a block of running with walking, not additional distance, if that's what you're getting at. Hope you can keep your feet well. :-)0
