Post bi-pass...Pain

For about the last week I have had extreme pain around my lower rib cage across my upper abdomen. It gets so intense at times I can't stand straight. It usually comes with nausea. I do feel slight nausea most of the time for the past week as well. I have also been getting acid reflux frequently, I have not had this since prior to surgery. All my doctors left town or I would call them. I do not wish to run to the emergency room, since it is an automatic upper endoscopy, usually followed by exploratory surgery! Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated!

I had my RnY on January 15, 2013 . . I am far from an expert - HOWEVER, my medical team is extremely firm about pain issues. Unless there is something wrong . . you should not be feeling pain and extreme pain signals the need for intervention. It is very odd that ALL of your doctors would be out of town at the same time - there must be someone on call. Regardless, if the ER is the only option, my opinion is that you go to the ER.0

First, when was your surgery? If it is soon after, it could be something that will go away in a couple of weeks. Surely your surgical team left someone on call? I sure don't see someone doing an endoscopy or exploratory surgery for something like that! Maybe an ultrasound or x ray. Could be a gall bladder issue if that hasn't been removed. If pain is severe, I would seek emergency attention--but make certain they know when you had your gastric bypass. Would be helpful if you went to the hospital where it was done.0

I wouldn't mess around. Have it checked out. Your doctors left town permanently or on vacation? If permanently, you need to find another WLS doctor nearby to go to for routine follow up visits.0

when was your surgery?? I am 7 years post op and had to get my gallbladder out last October. Turns out what the doctors thought was ulcers was actually gallbladder acting up. Became TOO much last October and they figured it out. Symptoms sounds similar to what I had... just a thought. Hope you feel better!! But I'd say go to dr anyway... just to give you peace of mind and to feel better!!!0

I had my gall bladder removed 2 years before my RNY but your symptoms are the same as mine were. Get to the ER.0
