What is with the fat bombs?

one thing I love about mfp is looking at other peoples diaries! I find it fascinating how we can all be on the same food plan and even have similar macronutrients and not eat any of the same things. My questions is what is a fat bomb and why are people eating them? I have seen them in people's food logs and people talking about them like they are a super food so I was just curious.

People are eating them if they have difficulty getting their fat macro as high as they want or need a boost of energy, etc. I used to use them but since starting Bulletproof coffee I have no more need of them. I also can just add more animal fat or butter to whatever to get my fat up. I choose fatty meats when I can as well (none of my meat is CAFO anymore).

Fat bombs vary. The ones that I made were mostly coconut oil and/or coconut manna. Sometimes with cocao, and/or nuts. They are a useful snack for people who want to be ketogenic and find it difficult to get the extra fats in.

Are they something recommend by one of the Paleo authors? Haven't read about them.

I don't really remember. I think I learned about them here too. Just a fancy name for a homemade high fat snack. I think it's better that I just get more fat in the rest of my food, but my morning coffees are pretty much the same idea as a "fat bomb" (except now I've been adding gelatin).

I think the started in Low Carb arenas. But since many Paleo people are also low carb it transferred over. They are meant to get your calories and fat up and not raise carbs and protein since protein can convert to sugar.
