Fried food?

I was under then impression that Paleo doesn't include any fried foods but I see a ton of recipes out there where food is prepared by pan-frying in coconut oil. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Fry away! Just make sure your food is fried in paleo-friendly fat, such as coconut oil.

I think people get the idea that fried food is a no-go on paleo because when they think of "fried food", they think of breaded items. I suppose you could try to paleoize "breading" if that's what you want, or you just skip the breading altogether. I shallow fry pretty much everything I cook in coconut oil.

Indeed. It's the breading and bad oils like canola, corn, etc. that's the problem. I saute (frying with less oil) virtually everything, varying the oil for the recipe.I use coconut oil, butter, bacon fat, olive oil or macadamia oil depending on the food.

Agree with above comments. The breading is the majority of the problem (on menus, "fried" is synonymous with breaded), but I would also suggest cooking at the lowest heat that meets your needs, especially if using any oils other than animal or coconut. I just had eggs fried in bacon grease for lunch. Yum.

Besides the oil used, panfrying is not the same as deep frying anyway.

We have a cart here in Portland that I go to sometimes, its a nice treat; Paleo Chicken Tenders: Chicken breast from Draper Valley Farms, “breaded” in coconut flour with garlic, white pepper, and salt then Deep fried in 100% grass-fed beef tallow and served with a southwestern aioli.

Serving Size: 0.4lb chicken (uncooked), Protein: 45g, Fat: 23g, Net Carbs: 2g.

I used to get VERY sick from anything fried, but if its "paleo fried" I'm actually okay. First time in probably 10 years I could have "fried food" moral of the story fried paleo is MUCh different than fried elsewhere.
